WSSU 2019 ABSN!!!

Published

Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone is planning on applying to the WSSU ABSN for the Spring 2019 cohort? If so, I would love to hear where everyone is from. If accepted, I plan on relocating from Massachusetts. From reading previous years' threads the program is pretty competitive so good luck to everyone!

Hello mcash914! I am also planning on applying to UNCWs BSN program. If you don't mind me asking, what is your GPA? I am trying got see what the average GPA for applicants will be. I will have a 3.8 at time of applying. I have a good feeling its going to be pretty competitive so I'm nervous... thanks so much!

Hello everyone! I am also applying to this program. I would be relocating from Maryland. And I agree, it has been a little difficult to get in touch with people from admissions.

Hi there! I see some people have been having trouble getting into contact with the admissions people. I'm guessing I'm not the only person who hasn't gotten an email confirming my application was received, then! Does anyone happen to know how WSSU looks at in state vs out of state applicants? Is there a preference for in state, since it's part of the UNC system, or do they analyze each application without considering residency?

Hey do you know if you apply to wssu after you hear back from the ABSN program? or do you just apply to both and wait to hear back?

From the application instructions if I remember correctly you're supposed to wait to hear back from the program, then you would apply to the school. Let us know if you hear anything lol

I'm not exactly sure, but what I read from the application was this: "All items must be received in the WSSU Admissions Office on/before October 1st in order to process admissions application for the spring semester. The Office of Admission does not forward transcripts of the student to the Division of Nursing for review. Once a student has been accepted to WSSU, they will be contacted to confirm admission to the university." Since October 1st is usually before they announce admissions decisions, I took this to mean I should apply for admission to the university after September 1st but before October 1st. But you could also try calling admissions to clear things up: 1-800-257-4052

Lol yeah that actually makes sense. That does sound right. Haha sorry guys.

Where do you see October 1st, the application that I received says November first? Have they made recent changes?

Hey yall!! My name is Jamie and I am in the current cohort (N17). I remember being in yalls shoes and the waiting was awful lol. But just remain positive. Are there any questions I can answer for anyone??

Please just be patient with me because we are in classes and clinicals. :)

It can be really difficult getting into contact with anyone in the nursing department, but my advice is to just be persistent. They will eventually answer the phone or email you back.

Do you know how WSSU looks at in state vs out of state applicants? Do they have a preference for one or the other, or don't they care? And what are some of the experience backgrounds people in the program come from? Any commonalities, or is it a broad range?

Thanks for offering to answer questions!

I am not sure how they select one as oppose to the other, but from looking at our class. We have about 4-5 out of state and everyone else is in state. Our class has soooo many different backgrounds--such as CNAs, a lawyer, paramedics, hospital administration, and other backgrounds not related to healthcare.

You are so welcome!
