Haven't seen a thread on this yet.. Anybody else applying?
I just went by WSSU to talk to admissions about the online application problems and they said CFNC's and their admissions' IT departments were working together to solve the problem. For me, when I entered "Pre-Nursing Accelerated/Traditional Option" it would auto-correct to "Pre-Nursing RN-BSN Option". I emailed the WSSU admissions office directly and sent in an online application then went by and submitted a paper application as well just to cover all my bases.. I'm a little OCD. Apparently several students have been having the same issue as me.
I didn't realize we could apply to WSSU before finding out that we were accepted into the program to speed up the process. Then again, I don't think I would've wanted to spend the $50 application fee without knowing for sure I would go there for the program. Hope everyone else's experience has been easier than mine so far!
Some of my classmates want to warn y'all to not expect dealing with the school to get any easier...at any point. It's apparently a tradition that the ABSN students are second-class to traditional students.
We have maybe 5 people who commute from Greensboro by the way. Be warned that you'll have to get up about 4 am on some days for clinical if you decide to come from Greensboro.
Congrats to everyone on your acceptance to the ABSN program!!!!!! I am also currently in the ABSN program and have just read up on your thread. For those contemplating on whether or not to commute, I personally would not. Like Elsie said, there may be times you have clinicals at 6am. You would have to wake up super early. Or like myself, you may have a study group that you meet up with to study for tests, etc which could last all night long, then still having to be up early for class. Commuting could become really draining throughout the year. The Stratford at Hillcrest is a very nice apartment complex only about 10-12 minutes from campus. It is close to the mall, grocery stores, restaurants, everything if you want to look into it.
Best of luck on yall's journey through nursing school. Look forward to meeting you all at orientation.
I was wondering if anyone in the program could provide some insight as far as scholarships that are available. For most of the ones listed on the WSSU website, will we have to be in the program before we are able to apply? The reason I ask is because a lot of them require a letter of recommendation from faculty/staff or the dean and I presume we need to be in their classes/program before we can supply these for the scholarship programs?
Also would you guys recommend buying any nursing supplies or are there any certain requirements for the program as far as what type of stethoscope, drug books, etc. to buy?
Thanks so much! :)
As far as dealing with admissions the only problem I had so far was that they needed some additional information but neglected to inform me of this. So if you haven't heard from the office be sure to call and check up on them. Also, certain offices can be really bad at answering the phones. Best times I found to call was first thing in the morning around 9 am

Hi! I was wondering if anyone will be relocating or commuting. If so what apartments have you looked into. I currently live in Charlotte and trying to decide what would be the better decision.
Thanks!
