Hello all,
Let's start this 2020 application cycle thread. Anyone will be applying this Summer?

I also accidentally but I had a graduate degree (bc I have my masters, but FAFSA only cares about the undergrad ABSN degree I’m pursuing) on my FAFSA & that delayed my award. I had to go back and Amend my FAFSA to be eligible. The university had to do the math to see how much I was allowed to accept & WSSU distributed appropriately.
the scholarship was a grant that nursing dept had for students from disadvantaged or underrepresented populations. They had funds they had to get rid of before end of school year. I didn’t even know I got it until it was applied to my financial aid account. I asked if that scholarship was available this year and they said that account was not funded this year due to COVID ☹️.
Aww, shucks! That stinks! But I'm glad that you were able to get the scholarship!
Girl, I read that you are commuting from a pretty good distance away. I live in Cooleemee, which is about 35-45 minutes from Winston, depending on the road construction! ? Was it really difficult for you to commute that far?
It's been several years since WSSU and Baptist did this, but there used to be an agreement between Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and WSSU, I think when the program was created. Baptist Hospital would pay for the entire amount of funding, in exchange the student would have to make a 3-year commitment to work in Baptist Hospital. When I was looking at this program (way, way back in 2012 or 2013), it sounded very tempting, but I had always wanted to work in Mother Baby, and Wake Forest Baptist didn't have one at the time. I was still working on my bachelor's at this point, anyway. When I graduated, WSSU and Baptist were no longer doing the program. Now they do have a Mother/Baby Unit, and I wish I had done this years ago!! Seriously, what is 3 years on a unit that isn't your dream unit in the grand scheme of things? It's still experience!

I know this program is fast and rigorous. How physical is it? How hands-on is it?
I worked with some nursing students at Forsyth, (and even though you're supposed to have your CNA before you do the program, this one student couldn't do a BP.... It's one of the skills CNAs are trained on!) anyway, the students weren't doing much in the way of patient care. I never saw them do anything with the patients! Very different from my CNA training because we had to touch everyone! This one guy basically watched me do my vitals, and I showed him how we charted it, while also explaining that the CNA and RN charting looks a bit different. That was it! He never came back to her room, and it was his only assignment!
I worked at a nursing home where ECPI nursing students were doing their clinicals, and they were just sitting around, laughing, talking with the instructor. I barely saw them leave that table, I never saw them in my patients' rooms, even though they had my hall!
So, how hands-on are your clinicals so far. Do you help the CNAs or RNs while you are there, or are you supposed to just observe?

Right, I was thinking the same!
