Wrong average help!

Nursing Students General Students

My nursing instructor for pharmacology averaged my grades wrong and she wouldn't admit it to me yesterday. She says that I have a 74 and it is really a 76. I am absolutely positive. I went to the vice president of the college this morning and gave him the correct average, he got 76 also when he calculated my grades, but he can't talk with the nursing dept until after Christmas. The nursing staff has the attitude that they are always right. This was my final and now according to them, I am out of the program. I am so afraid the instructors in the nursing dept will sabatoge my existing grades, I guess I just want reassurance that they can't do this! Thank you for all of your help!!

I have found that my facilitator corrects the marks appropriately when I have had to indicate the errors (it has happened a number of times, especially using the computers for exams). So hopefully your instructors will see the error and make the necessary corrections.

That gives me hope, thank you!

This happened to me in one of my pre-req classes. I contacted my instructor and informed her of her mistake. She left me a snotty message that she redid the math and her average was correct and I could redo my math, if I still came up with something different that I should contact her. Needless to say that I had to contact her again. I figured out how she could have come up with her figure and the only way that I came up with that was if I left out a test. I called her and corrected her again and my grade was changed that day. It helps that I had all of my scores written down and all of my written assignments still in my folder. It sounds like you've got yours pretty organized, too. Just approach it with a postive attitude (as postitive as you can) and things should go fine. Let us know how things turn out!

First off, go to the administration only as a last and drastic resort. In your work life, you can substitute "management" for "administration."

I would write out very clearly how you've calculated your average and copy each of your papers that show the grades that you've earned. Put together a package that documents each of your grades and clearly shows how the average is calculated and then schedule an appointment with the instructor to review it.

Thanks for your post. To clarify, the only reason that I went to the administration was because our managment personal was out for a death in her family, and I called the school and they told me to speak to the VP since she was not there and it would be after the holidays before she would be back. Or I would have spoken to her about the situation.

Thanks for the advice, though. I will do that in the future.

Hope it all works out.

This is a great reminder for students to KEEP ALL ASSIGNMENTS until final marks are posted and accurate.

I have had to ask twice about grades from diff classes and turns out one was entered incorrectly in the system and another was b/c the professor mixed up some of my grades with my daughters, whose grades were much lower (we took a class together).

Opps... I didn't see the out of the program part! I am sure this is going to work out for you. Just keep positive!
