Would it be wise as a RN to.....medication Aide?

Published

I'm a RN. Would it be wise to take a job as a medication aide? I think it would put my foot in the door since I have no RN experience and pharmocology is one of the biggest part of nursing. whih is a plus. My only concern is how would it affect my license and woud I be allowed to accept that job considering I am a RN?

We don't have medication aides down south but I have heard of them. I don't think you should take that type of position and most places would probably tell you that you are over qualified since you are a RN. I am sure the pay is much less than a RN. While pharmacology is a big part of nursing, nursing is much more than just pushing pills although it may seem that way sometimes. Look for a RN job and you will learn pharmacology as you go, you can always look up each medication that the patient is taking. You should really get your RN experience and figure out where you want to go with your career.

Although, as a licensed nurse, I have worked as a CNA, I would not work as a medication aide. There is a big difference between being held responsible for medication administration and doing personal care and I would not want to be put in that position.

Check with your state's BON to see if you are even allowed to work below your license.
