If you have to go in for a medical procedure, for example a colonoscopy, would you go to the facility you work at or would you travel to another location where you don't know the staff? I work at a small hospital where all of the staff knows each other, and I don't know if I would feel comfortable in that type of a situation. What would you do in this situation?

I would go where I know and trust the people, I know it can be embarrassing... There's just something comfortable about the familiarity, it feels like home and the staff feels like family sometimes!!

I would most likely seek treatment at a place I didn't work, so that I may have some privacy.

I am so terrible under conscious sedation--I'm like a slobbering, happy drunk. It is painfully embarassing. I also react poorly to narcotics. Like fall out of bed and talk to the TV.
While I trust every one I work with, I don't know if I would come to my hospital or not with something non-emergent. Is it better to do that crazy stuff in front of people who know and love you, or with someone who doesn't know you from Adam?

I work at a very large and extreamly busy hospital, so to get a routine colonoscopy may be a wait so I would go to a facility closer to my house that isnt as busy. However if I was ever seriously injured you bet I'd be at my facility.

no way
I'd be more comfortable in an environment where I could be honest when they go through my history

Definitely ONLY at my hospital, it's the only facility I trust (except in July !!) Most of the staff I work with are like family. Having been a pt a few times there, I always felt very safe knowing who is taking care of me.

If your insurance is through your job, the hospital usually prefers that you have procedures done there. We can go elsewhere, but it usually costs more.
I've never had a problem being a patient where I know the staff.

I would not seek care at the facility i work for. but not for the reasons given so far. as a paramedic in a busy EMS system, i get my check from the hospital, i wear their logo on my sleeve, and i deal with them daily. But I would not be treated thre for many reasons. they have many nurses that dont seem to care, treat paramedics and patients poorly. to include the ER and most wards. the facility though relatively new always seems dirty. The nursing staff, appear disorganized, are never ready to give report for transfer patients.
Honestly I would go to another hospital in my coverage area, where the ER nurses treat me better than my own hospital.

Yes. Our hospital is known for providing excellent care and I am assured that I will be taken well care of. Plus, the employee discount is always a plus (covers deductible, coinsurance and copays!). :)

Before nursing school I would have said no, but after being a guinea pig for so many skills labs and having to be very open about personal things I don't think I'd have a problem with it.
