Would you report a physician who was involved in unethical/illegal activities?

I've seen a lot of unethical doctors in my short career as a NP. I was wondering if anyone has ever reported a physician to the Board of Medicine? How about reporting them for insurance fraud?

I did clinicals at a practice that had a "boutique" in the waiting room selling saris (sp?), junk jewlery, junk electronics. Maybe not the same as the other winners you describe. He had his staff do tympanometry on all patients. Ran a pharmacy (he was a pharm tech as well, I guess this made it kosher.) He prescribed more ativan than I have ever seen a single provider prescribe ever. Steroid shots like lollipops. I got invited to leave after about five days there, it was a nightmare. For my troubles I got clinically suspended.:bluecry1::down::devil:

I looked into reporting him to the medical board, but I could prove nothing illegal, so Dr. feelgood rolls on.:banghead:

Is it legal for someone other than a pharmacist to dispense medication? Something is very fishy about this, especially that he's handing out Ativan like that, so you need to report all of this to the DEA.

In most states physicians can either get a special dispensing license or have dispensing as part of their physician license. There is also a special DEA license that you need. If I recall there is only one state where it is illegal for a physician to dispense. There are companies that pre-package meds and sell them to practices.

This is one way that practices can make extra money.

As far as the Ativan, you have to be able to prove that either they are knowingly selling it with the intent of diversion or they are way outside of the standards of practice.

I can't do it. In MY opinoin he over prescribes. But who am I? A disgruntaled student, it would never fly. Thanks for clearing it up David.

How about a doc that has his own chelation clinic in an area where there is a large number of seniors? Talk about a lack of evidence! You can't even get through the door without showing your credit card.....

Report that doctor to the Board of Medicine ASAP!
