In response to someone asking for medical advice, I recently came across this comment:
"I'm a mother of 2....that should at least register me at a RN or something"
I was quite offended. Now, truth be told, I'm sure she meant the comment in fun, but I still found it offensive.
Anyone else find these sorts of comments offensive, or am I just overreacting (which I have been known to do before! lol)?
LOL!!!!!!! I love it~! How about a recruiter too for having to round them up for work? LOL!Yeah my friend is going to school to be a lawyer, so that means she can be a administrative RN, wipe butts and kiss them, argue that the conditons aren't there for lack of evidence to prove it, and sue herself over any mistakes so the family can get money to pay for the hospital stay..and best yet...questions herself on stand! LOL!!!!
Oh now I am being as bad as my patients! LOL!!!!!!!!!!
DEAR LORD!!! A "nurse/lawyer"!!!!!!!! Yep...we could really run with this one!! :lol2:
Being a mom does help you multi-task (although plenty of non-moms do it just fine), it does help you do things that are helpful to being a RN. (like sympathizing c the parent of a sick child...) HOWEVER, there is so much to being a nurse that you don't know unless you've actually gone through the training & done the job.
My guess is that the mom who said this had no idea what she was talking about. There a lot of people who say things when the truth is they don't know a dollar from a doughnut. They are called politicians....
It doesn't offend me at all. I was a mom before I was a nurse and Personally being a mom/parent has made me a GREAT nurse. I understand how a nurse may feel a bit slighted by this since we work so hard for our education and respect just to have someone say "I'm a nurse too" or "practically a nurse". However I doubt this person said this to be disrespectful to our profession. Being a mom is an amazing thing. You wear many different hats in a multitude of colors. I think being compared to a mom is sweet sentiment and shows a great deal of respect, trust and dedication for our profession. Ask yourself "How are mom's viewed by society, generally? I understand both opinions, but i believe this isn't something to become upset about personally.
