Would a night time children's center make 2nd and 3rd shift easier?

Nurses Career Support

Alabama - I am thinking about venturing outside of nursing and starting a night time childcare center, thinking that is would be great for medical families and especially single moms that would like or do work 2nd or 3rd shift. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I think it would be a great resource for people who do shift work. Do it!

We are getting one at our hospital by the end of the year. It will be a 24 hr daycare and also a sick daycare as well. All the nurses are so exited. We are also talking with local colleges to let their child development students do their practicum there. It will be educational and convenient.

I will relocate to get a hospital that has this!

VERY SMART MOVE!!!! Terrific opportunity for a nurse entrepreneur.

I have worked in two hospital systems that provided on-campus 24h daycare, including sick child care. Both had extremely low turnover among night shift staff. As I recall, the cost was not really much lower than other providers, but there was a waiting list.

Great idea! The issue in my state is that nurses work at least12 hrs and you can't leave your kid in daycare over 12 hrs. Puts a predominantly female occupation in a pickle
