So, I just finished this semester and I got a C in psychology and in Soc Science. I am so worried my chances have become really slim for the nursing program.

While I think Nursing Schools look at all your grades, I do not think that your two C's will kill you. I would advise that you make A's or close to A's in all of your Science classes. That would be A&P, Micro, and Chem! I have 3 Cs on my transcript but I still have ahigh GPA.
Good luck. Dont Worry so much just do your best!

You may have to just retake them with a different professor. I know A LOT of students that had to retake some classes before applying to the NURSING program. Some even went ahead and applied with their current GPA and while they were waiting for a response they took advantage of the down time to retake classes here and there. It is no biggie, and by all means please don't get discouraged. I had another girlfriend that graduated with a BSN with a C in Chemistry. Don't feel bad!!! Look up teachers ahead of time at ratemyprofessors.com. Keep us updated :)

The nursing school that I want to get into doesn't let you retake classes. I.e. if you get a C in some class and retake it and then get an A, the A won't count. Sucky

the school I'm applying to doesn't take retakes. No credit for C's. But maybe you'll be ok...maybe it's just for the major pre-regs like Anatomy, physio, chem, micro, ochem.
I would try to get all A's and B's for the rest of your pre-regs.
YOU CAN DO IT!
Yah my school has a weird formula to get in.
[*]GPA in 5 prerequisite courses must be minimum 3.0: BIOL65, BIOL66, Micro20, Engl1A, Statistics 95.
[*]Minimum score of 80 on TEAS
[*]ALL prerequisites must be completed with a C or better (but realistically they probably want a B or better)
[*]Pass the WST (writing skills test)
This is just what's required to apply. Every term they take 200+ applicants and there are only 60 slots open in the nursing program in any term.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your C's aren't in science classes and I think that is most important. At my school they put a major emphasis on not screwing up any science classes. Science = nursing, right? If your good at science that doesn't mean you'll be good at social science and psyc. If your science grades stunk but you social science and psyc were good grades, you would be in trouble I think. But since that's not the case, don't worry about it.
Good luck!

it all depends on the other applicants also!

This really depends on you school, how they admit applicants, and the applicant pool itself. My school admits students purely on a points system derived from your pre-requisite course grades. Its so competitive that applicants strive for (and for the most part, receive) straight A's. At my school, no one would even apply with a C on their application; they would not earn enough points.....yet, we can re-take pre-req's as many times as we want; the school will always take the most recent (not necessarily the best) grade. Some pre-nursing students here take pre-req's several times to get the desired A....it's crazy!
So, just get all the facts on how your school admits. Good Luck!

Ok.. a C in social science is nothing..if you mostly A's and a couple of B's in all your natural science classes, you could be an optimal nursing school candidate. As far as, retaking the class doesnt matter, thats not the case in the nursing schools that i researched. Generally, the will average the grade that you received the first time with the grade that you made the second time. For example, you made a C , then you make an A in psycology, they would average that to a B. So you still have a chance. Please research the schools that you are interested in applying to, and see there requirements so you dont have to worry for nothing. and no more sad faces!!lol
Good Luck!

I would find out the criteria for your school. I got a C in Anatomy because it was my first semester of school in 15 years and I just plain put off studying. I have since pulled my GPA back up and since my school goes of an overall point system, it won't matter. HTH
