Hey guys! I am super worried right now. I started my undergrad off as a bio major sure that I want to do something related to medicine. I joined a sorority and did not take school seriously at all. Got a few As and Bs, but few Cs and two Ds freshman year.... For example, first semester freshman year i got a D in Genchem 1 and D in precalculus and retook precalculus my 2nd semester freshman year only to get a C. To be completely honest with you all... i was not studying, AT ALL. I was living by the moto "Cs get degrees" and not taking my academics seriously, not trying to party. That summer I decided I need to start to turn this around. I determined science may not be for me so I switched to a business major. It was a slow start, my sophomore year I get all As and Bs. I needed a science to satisfy my degree so i took Geology 1 and 2 that year and got a B+ and B- (hoping this doesn't look too bad or impact my science GPA...). From my sophomore year summer, I got really serious. I raised my GPA from a very low 2.something to a 3.42 now! I am in my last semester of senior year. I have just a few Bs, mainly As... over a dozen A+s. I did 2 great business internships. I have 2 classes left that I will get rid of this summer to be done with my business degree.. I know I can get As in them and get it to 3.45, for sure by the end of the summer.
During my senior year(this year) I saw how much I was able to bring up my GPA and earn great grades, so, I decided I should not give up on my dream of being in healthcare/medicine. Working in the corporate world is not fulfilling for me. I wasn't positive which field exactly, I volunteered at the oral surgery clinic at a local hospital for 6 months and determined that I love nursing and my DREAM is to be a nurse pracitioner. I will be shadowing a very talented and well-known NP in my area for 2 months this summer.
That being said, I retook chem 1 last semester and chem 2 this semester. I got a B- in both. I am so sad now. I honestly worked my BUTTTT off in this classes. I dont understand why chemistry is SO hard for me! Plus, I was SO close to a B in chem 2, but my professor didn't give it to me I know I can manage As in the prerequisites like human development, nutrition, psychology..... etc. But I am genuinely worried about A&P I & II.. and Microbiology. I think if I work SUPER hard I can pull out Bs, but I dont know about As. I am dealing with a lot of personal things right now too which is no excuse, but I would really try my best.. What if I get Bs in all 3 of those? Do i still have a chance for nursing school??? This is my dream!
Also, considering the fact that I should have been graduating this year, I will no longer recieve scholarship help with school and my dad can not help anymore. I will definitely have to get a job to survive. I would like to continue volunteering too while doing the prerequisites to strength my application. IDK how to volunteer, work full-time and have a full-time class schedule?...... How would it look if I took Microbiology, A&P I & II online? All of my other perquisites would have been done in person. Emory (a very well-respected and rigorous institution with a good nursing school in my state) offers these classes completely online, with lab. Would this be frowned upon?
Lastly, I am also not sure if I should graduate with my business degree and do the prerequisites post-bacc or just finish them then graduate....I am thinking of finishing them then graduating all together.... I would be done spring 2019 with all the prerequisites. Which seems like the smarter option?

Every school calculates eligibility differently. What you've got to do is check with the specific school(s) you're interested in.

Sounds like you're in Georgia, right? You have a lot of options. You can graduate with your current plan, then you can apply to an accelerated BSN program. There are several in ATL. You can just focus on the prereqs, apply to one of the BSN programs in the area, and make the BSN your first degree (at least I think that's an option). You can take your prereqs at a community college as well. I already have a BS from Georgia tech, and have opted to do the ADN route. A lot of the schools have the science class online, and you can do the lab at school. This is a good option for me, as classes at the community college are SO much cheaper than Emory or one of the accelerated BSN programs around. Atlanta has SO many schools, so many routes that you can take, that you really just have to pick the one that is right for you.
Also, you have to find a balance for your time. I currently work full time, commute over 100 miles a day, have a husband and kid to spend time with, and do school online/part time. I just don't have time to volunteer like I would like to. At some point you have to find a way to balance your time and prioritize all of your needs. And some schools may or may not even look at volunteer experience.
