Oh sure, and been stabbed, beaten up and assaulted by patients. Now a days ( this was long ago), I would and have certainly made it clear that an attempted touch to me is the actual assault and I have no qualms about taking it further. Luckily and happily, these days I have not run into the problem as much as it was rampant in the past....And screaming and yelling at someone to intimidate them also figures into my harrassement, unsafe work environment action....

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

I've been verbally and physically assaulted by patients, the occaisional family member and once tackled by a prison guard watching the patient to save me from a knife attack by a family member who was then subdued by his own prison guard. (Long story). While I've never been physically assaulted by a physcian, I have been threatened and verbally abused, and I've witnessed a few incidents of physical violence by physicians and have friends who have been assaulted.

A few years ago, the assistant nurse manager where I was working shoved me across the room and into the bedside table because I wasn't getting out of her way fast enough. Although nothing specifically came back to me about that incident, (my only witness committed suicide a week later!) the ANM ended up going to anger management classes and taking antidepressants. Still thought I deserved an apology, though!

HOLY CRAP!!! WHere do you guys work?! I have never had anything even close to that from a staff member.

It is becoming evident that workplace violence is more prevalent than I ever imagined. However, as long as we keep these incidents in the closet and let these issues go unresolved the violence will continue.

I hate it when I say "incident" what I really mean is assault and battery. We have surgar coated these attacks long enough and I intend to fight to the end.

Anyone teaching Parenting Education? If so, would love to debate experiences. What has worked, what not etc.

I almost broke the wrist of the last one stupid enough to try assualting me. He rushed me and the wrist lock was a tad rough. He wore a splint for 2 weeks.
