Steps that need to be taken if you need to apply for the green card.:
1. Apply to a state Board of Nursing for licensure by examination. Follow the requirements that are listed on the application. Some states will require a credentials verification, please be aware of that. Once your credentials have been accepted, they will send you a letter stating that you meet all requirements for licensure except the NCLEX-RN exam. Once you have received this letter, you can go ahead and pay the fee for the exam to Pearson-Vue. This can be done on their website: http://www.pearsonvue.com.
The charge for taking the exam in the US is $200 US, and for the overseas centers is $350 US. The overseas centers require that you phone them to schedule your appointment at this time. See the website listed for Pearson-Vue to obtain their phone numbers.
2. Finger print cards can be done at any police station unless otherwise stated by that particular Board of Nursing. If they are needed, I would have two sets completed.
3. Visa Screen Certificate is handled by CGFNS and can be downloaded from their website at http://www.CGFNS.org. This is required of all nurses who are applying for a green card on their own. If you are married to a nurse who will also be working, currently just one person needs the Certificate as the other will be on a spousal visa. However, this is subject to change.
4. English exams are required if you are not from an exempt country.
Approved exams are TOEFL, TWE, and TSE or the IELTS series with the academic branch and the speaking section.
5. Any forms that require a notary can be done at the U.S. Embassy where you are living. There is a fee for this. Last time that I checked, the charge was about $35 US per signature required.
6. For those of you wishing to go the New York route, they require a special credentials verification, called a CVS, also done thru CGFNS. They can use the same submitted documents for the Visa Screen Certificate. But you do not submit the documents and are unable to do so. CGFNS is required to obtain all needed documents for this, you just submit the applications and pay the fee and they do the rest.
Hope that this helps clear up many questions that keep popping up. :)
Hello Suzanne!
Thx for your speedy reply as always! I can't wait to just head to the states and get some action. :typing
Anywayz,I'd got some questions about getting the licensure:
I was informed that almost enery state in the U.S has a different licensure law or procedure:
You'd mentioned before that since I'm a student who graduates with a U.S Nursing degree, I would not need to take the CGNFS....
but is there any states that I might need me to take the CGFNS because my school just told me that I need to take it whether or not I've graduated from a U.S Institution, so I'm a bit confused, can you confirm this claim?
Does the governmet set any rules or working regulations of foreign students who graduated as a nurse and wants to work there:lol_hitti ?
Mike
Which school?
If you are a graduate of a US nrusing school, then you are not a graduate of a foreing nursing school. You od not need the CGFNSA exam, as you will have g4raduated from the US. You only need NCLEX and Visa Screen Certificate.
If the school is telling you otherwise, I am going to have to laugh very hard.:rotfl:
It is called CGFNS, Commission for Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. Last time that I checked, Alabama was in the US.:chuckle
Do not worry what someone is telling you, if they have absolutely no idea.
You will need the Visa Screen Certificate, thru CGFNS, but that is not the exam. Again, only NCLEX required for you to get that. That is what the school is getting confused with. At least I hope so. But definitely not the CGFNS exam.
Yeah...I ur right. I absolutely have no idea why would they tell me to take CGNFS after I graduate from their school. I'm not sure is it alright to tell you which school I'm goin to... because of the privacy thing...it's in Alabama...and you're right! How did you guessed it?:chuckle
I think my username you see, is where I plan to go to.
There are several other schools I'd also applied to but this school I'm going to has a university medical center and it's on the U.S News rankings
May I ask , which state would be a better place for nurses to work and gain experience for fresh graduate nurses? Which state in the U.S are in shortage of nurses? What about the southern states?:smackingf
Mike
You mentioned something someplace about going to Alabama in the past few days. They may have said that you need a CGFNS Certificate, and it should be a Visa Screen Certificate. Both are thru CGFNS and if they have no idea, then anything that mentions CGFNS in the name sounds right to it.
Please concentrate on getting thru your program right now, work should be the furthest thing from your mind. Take things one step at a time.:)

Please help.I have passed NCLEX_RN in Feb..A hospital in NY want to use me as a nurse and sponsored me for green card, but the hospital want my EAD now. My EAD had passed its period of validity, the lawyer said they can not apply for continuing my EAD. If I can not get a EAD, the hospital will not hire me,I will not get this job.I am at sea now.
How can I get my EAD? Is there any method for me to solve this problem?
If the hospital do not hire me, do u think I can still be petitioned for the green card with an Adjustment of Status filed on my behalf now?
Do I need do visa screen certification as soon as possilbe?
Is it the EAD from the OPT? Or one that was obtained after an AOS was submitted in your behalf? They are two completely different EADs. You will need to go thru the process of obtaining the EAD by the AOS, if that is the way that you are going thru the immigration process.
Did you train in the US, first of all? You have me confused.
Where did the original EAD come from? And when did you get it?
And yes, you will need a Visa Screen Certificate as soon as possible.

You will not be able to get a visa to work with the CNA, there must be an RN after your name. RNs are being expedited to work in the US, the CNA will not get you a work permit, at least legally.
