Steps that need to be taken if you need to apply for the green card.:
1. Apply to a state Board of Nursing for licensure by examination. Follow the requirements that are listed on the application. Some states will require a credentials verification, please be aware of that. Once your credentials have been accepted, they will send you a letter stating that you meet all requirements for licensure except the NCLEX-RN exam. Once you have received this letter, you can go ahead and pay the fee for the exam to Pearson-Vue. This can be done on their website: http://www.pearsonvue.com.
The charge for taking the exam in the US is $200 US, and for the overseas centers is $350 US. The overseas centers require that you phone them to schedule your appointment at this time. See the website listed for Pearson-Vue to obtain their phone numbers.
2. Finger print cards can be done at any police station unless otherwise stated by that particular Board of Nursing. If they are needed, I would have two sets completed.
3. Visa Screen Certificate is handled by CGFNS and can be downloaded from their website at http://www.CGFNS.org. This is required of all nurses who are applying for a green card on their own. If you are married to a nurse who will also be working, currently just one person needs the Certificate as the other will be on a spousal visa. However, this is subject to change.
4. English exams are required if you are not from an exempt country.
Approved exams are TOEFL, TWE, and TSE or the IELTS series with the academic branch and the speaking section.
5. Any forms that require a notary can be done at the U.S. Embassy where you are living. There is a fee for this. Last time that I checked, the charge was about $35 US per signature required.
6. For those of you wishing to go the New York route, they require a special credentials verification, called a CVS, also done thru CGFNS. They can use the same submitted documents for the Visa Screen Certificate. But you do not submit the documents and are unable to do so. CGFNS is required to obtain all needed documents for this, you just submit the applications and pay the fee and they do the rest.
Hope that this helps clear up many questions that keep popping up. :)
iI NEED HELP GETTING A CNA PLEASE HELP ME THANKS'
Are you on a visa that permits you to work in the US? Are you an RN?
Not sure where you are, but this forum is for internationally trained RNs, not sure if you fit into that category. You may wish to go to the state forum for where you are located or wirh to work. States have different requirements for CNA certification.
It isn't a second registration, at least that is the wrong term for it. Just look at their website for license renewal. That is all that it is. You keep the same license number.
Suzanne:
thank you for your quickly reply. Well, after i used the term" renewal" in searched the board's website, i stiil could not find out any information about the license renewal. They just said they will send the form to the RN 3months before the license due. I know the CA board needs the RN complete the 30 continued education scores before renewal( check from their website). Suzanne or does anyone know whether the NY board request the RN submit the cotinued education score for the renewal or not ? Or do they need some special procedure? Please,Please reply me ,if who knows that!
thankyou for million!:imbar

NY doesn't list continuing ed requirements on their website. Even if they need them, you will have plenty of time to get theim completed on-line.
Suzanne,I am a CGFNS passer with certificate and I have a visa screen with me. Do I need a certification evaluation service? What is the purpose of this? Do i still need to apply for this service?
That will depend on where you applied for initial licensure, some states require the CES, NY requires the CVS. Afew have no requirement at all and do their own evaluation, such as NY.
For most states, you should be fine.
I got a question..Well Im a Nuring School Student from Germany and im 19 years old... i met my boyfriend and i wanna marry him soon .he lives in Ohio Columbus next year im gonna finish my schooling as a Nurse...and i wanna move to him.....
My question is will they accept my German Certification of Nursing and do i have to resit all the exams of 3 years??? Im very thankful if u can help me..Thanxs Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
You will need to submit your documents, once you graduate to CGFNS, so that they may do a credentials assessment of them. Ohio requires this and it is called the Credentials Evaluation (CES) done by CGFNS. You can find information about it form their website at www.cgfns.org. There is nothing that can be done or submitted until after you graduate. You will also need to apply to the Ohio Board of Nursing for Licensure by Examination. You will not have o redo any of the exams that you had in school, but you will be required to write the same exam that all nurses are required to write that wish to work in the US, including American nurses. Nothing more, as long as your curriculum meets the standards of CGFNS.
I GOT ONE MORE QUESTION how many Dollars do i earn in Usa in genrall???
Depending on the facility you're planning to work. You can start from $19 to $30/hour rate depending in your work experience and type of area you are working (ward, ICU, teletry...) . But, in your cases you are a fresh graduate and you don't have work experience you'all start from the lowest rate.
