Working at UAMS in Little Rock

U.S.A. Arkansas

Published

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if there are any RNs that are currently or have previously worked at UAMS. I have researched the hospital and benefits online, but you can only get so much from a website or a call to a recruiter. From the way it sounds I would really love to work there. The benefits alone are strongly attractive to me. I am also interested in the weekend option and they offer that as well. If anyone has any input I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance:) .

Thank you so much for looking into this for me. I literally jumped for joy when I got to read this. My hubby thinks I have lost my mind, lol. I am so thrilled about the thought of working there. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights would be absolutely perfect for me. The starting wage is terrific for Arkansas. I will also have to drive a little over 2 and a half hours, but it is well worth it in my opinion. Now, I just have to get through the rest of school. Thank you so much again. I am truly thrilled about this information. You made my day, by giving me something to look forward to.

When do you graduate? I graduate May 2006 and I must admit after looking at other hospitals UAMS sounds attractive. At first I was thinking b/t St. Vincents and the VA now I have UAMS to think about too. Thanks for the information. This is defintetly the kind of info. we want to know.

Specializes in OR, ICU, ER & Management.

Now, there is no guarantee there will be openings for that particular shift you desire, that is why you should get your application in early.

There are many people that live 2-3 hours away and drive in for the weekend option like you plan to do. So, you won't be the only one doing a commute!

By-the-way construction begins this year on the new hospital that should be completed by 2008.

I graduate in Dec. 2006. Steven thank you so much for all of your information:) . I know that the shift I am hoping for may not be available for me when I graduate. I am just so excited that I don't need 6 months or 1 year of experience to get a shift like that at your hospital. I am also open to moving at least an hour closer so that maybe I can work there during the week. I will most definitely be applying early so that I can at least start a dialouge with the instutution. I have another silly question. I know that you work 3-12 hour shifts, but how do they pay for that in a pay period? Do they pay for a straight 40 hours or is it 24 hours straight pay and 12 hours overtime or is it 36 hours of straight pay? I told you it was silly, but I don't know who else to ask that won't laugh at me, lol. Once again, thank you sooooooo much for all of the information. You are a very valuable resource. BTW, I saw your other post on relocating to Shreveport and I hope that all goes well for you in your search:) .

I really don't know how they actually work that out but if you call/write or e-mail Nurse Recruitment I bet they could answer that for you.

Their webpage:

BTW, if you haven't noticed, there is a $2000 or $4000 sign on bonus.

If you have any other questions, no matter how silly you may think they are, please feel free to ask!

Steve

Steve, once again I want to thank you for the information. I tried the link and was able to contact the NR department via email. I tried to provide them with my contact information so that they could send me information such as benefits and other things, but there is an error in sending the information from the page. No problem though I will simply send them a letter. You have really been invaluable. Hope they don't mind answering a student's question.:)

They shouldn't mind at all, that is their job, lol!

And if there any thing I can do to help you out don't hesitate to ask!

Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question....

Don't forget about the referral bonus.

I hired into the WEO. Please note that WEO positions give the bigger diff for only 24 hrs (even if you work 36 a week), and the bigger diff only takes effect after you are off of orientation and probation. They pay you for 36 hrs a week and give you full time benefits. Time and a half kicks in after 40 hours.

The draw is the money. The catch is that you are on contract and you can only take off 2 weekends a year. No matter if it is Christmas, Easter, your baby sister getting married, etc.

The sign-on bonus is only for hard-to-fill areas, which are evaluated month-to-month, and more than one person I know has been promised this and the rules have changed midstream.

Besides that--expect to be part of cutting-edge care where the MDs actually respect what you say, enviable staff-to-pt ratios, and horrible cafeteria food. :)

Hi,

missy2b do work just weekends or is it weekends plus one day thru the week. Do you still get the reg. diffs. while on orientation and probation. I did not know that about the sign on bonus.

thanks

I have worked everything.

Most floors push you to do the three 12's. It is cheaper for them.

While on orientation--say you worked F/S/S days. You get no diff on Friday, 10% Sat, and 10% Sun. After probation, you will get 30% for Sat and 30% for Sun.

What is the base pay for lpns and do you get more for every year of being an LPN I have been one for 22 years and I do have cancer nursing behind me.I am thinking about going back to work weekend option I did work for Bapist a few years ago until they cut contracts thanks

This hospital sounds far out. I have been wanting to come home to Conway for a long time. I think this would be a place I would check out, especially if they help with furthering your education (wonder if it applies to FNP school?)

Think I'd pass on the sign on bonus, though, the strings attached don't seem worth it.
