Working at UAMS in Little Rock

U.S.A. Arkansas

Published

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if there are any RNs that are currently or have previously worked at UAMS. I have researched the hospital and benefits online, but you can only get so much from a website or a call to a recruiter. From the way it sounds I would really love to work there. The benefits alone are strongly attractive to me. I am also interested in the weekend option and they offer that as well. If anyone has any input I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance:) .

I worked at UAMS right out of nursing school, and can tell you that it is a wonderful place. It is a teaching hospital......so there is always someone around to answer your questions. Also, there's an abundance of Physicians who are geninuely interested in their patients well being and enjoy taking the time to actually speak with the nurses. It has become a world class cancer research center, with patients coming from across the globe to seek treatment. I was diagnosed with terminal cancer three years ago (with a prognosis of 4-6 months), but with my care at UAMS and its faculity physicians, I am now back working part time and am in remission. Please consider this facility when making a decision as to where to practice......I honestly think you will love it

Thank you both for the replies. I was wondering what the base pay is for the hospital as a new grad. I really want the weekend shift and I believe this is a Th, F, and Sa 12 from 7a-7p or7p-7a is that correct? I would really like the evening shift. How much experience do they want me to have before I start working a weekend shift? I would love to work in oncology, it has been my dream for years. I am in the Fort Smith area where we have 2 hospitals and if they need experience in order to work weekends I may stay here to get it and then go to UAMS. The education benefit is the most attractive to me. I have 3 boys and as everyone knows it is never too early to start thinking about their college. I also love the fact that this is a teaching hospital and there is so much to learn. I love learning. One reason being a nurse is the perfect job for me, the learning never stops. So, just tell me anything that you think I would find interesting or that I might need to know. One more thing, should I approach them in my 3rd or 4th semester about gaining employment there? Thank you again in advance.:)

Just graduated in May and have been at UAMS for about 5 weeks. I like it so far. There are SOO many doctors therehaha. The base pay is 17.25. 30%shif diff for weekends. Weekend option nights is 50%. Nights is 20%. On my unit we do weekend option plus which is Sat, Sun, then one day or night during the week. We also self schedule which is great. Great retirement. Lots of proactive commities, and of course college for $5 a credit hour! PM me with any other questions.

Sunny,

I talked with the charge nurse on the oncology unit and yes, they do take new grads into weekend option which can be Th, Fri and Sat or Fri, Sat and Sun. 7p-7a or 7a-7p Yes, you should approach them in your 3rd or 4th semester.

Don't hesitate to ask if more is needed!

Hope that helps,

Steve

It's good for Arkansas. Beneftts are also good . That's still about $8 shiff diff. I will be working weekend option days and one pm shift during the week. A lot of other hospital just give like a basic $3 an hour for different shifts instead of a percentage. I drive almost 2 hours there and 2 hours back so that I can get the tuition discount.

Thank you so much for looking into this for me. I literally jumped for joy when I got to read this. My hubby thinks I have lost my mind, lol. I am so thrilled about the thought of working there. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights would be absolutely perfect for me. The starting wage is terrific for Arkansas. I will also have to drive a little over 2 and a half hours, but it is well worth it in my opinion. Now, I just have to get through the rest of school. Thank you so much again. I am truly thrilled about this information. You made my day, by giving me something to look forward to. :) :) :) :) :) :)
