Hellos nurses. This isn't so much a question as just wondering who all out there is working two jobs? How many hours a week do you work? How long have you or do you plan on working two? Do you have kids at home? What facilities are your jobs? I'm curious :) I'll go first. I work about 60 hours a week. Both ltc. I work 3 on 3 off 12 hour shifts at one job. And one 12 hour shift a week at my part time job. So my work week is usually 4 on 2 off. I have children, 1 and 6. I'm not sure how long I will do both since I'm about to start school up this fall, and I miss my kids dearly when I'm at work, I'm trying to better our future. Can't wait to hear your answers. :)))
I have had two jobs for a long time now. I work at least 3 10 hour shifts per week on an IV/PICC team but will often pick up another shift there. Then I work a home infusion infusion job and keep a small group of patients and then accept every visit that I can. This means that I often end up working many many days in a row before I get a day off. Personally,I get a bit tired mentally and spiritually after eight or nine days in a row. The good thing is that when it works out that way I can get three of four days off in a row
I am a single parent of a teenager and have raised my child by myself since the age of five. It was a constant juggling act when my child was young. It was scary working an hour /plus away from the school and I often said a prayer or two that I would make back in time to pick her up. I would drop her off at school and then go straight to my pt's house or head to the hospital. If I needed more time my family helped me. I love the set up I have because when I no longer can take the politics of the hospital I get to do something else that I love. I am lucky as I still adore the nursing profession even with all its troubles!

I know! Wow! I personally would not choose to sacrifice ten years of my and my kids' youth working so much that my family never saw me and my marriage broke down. Not worth it. I am about to work two prn jobs at the same time, I start a new one next week. I will have a 40 hr commitment per month between both jobs. I will probably work 20-24 hrs per wk, though. At this point in my life (42 with kids ages 10-14) I am putting them first and not working myself to death. I have all the years after they leave the nest to work a lot of hours if I choose. It will be interesting to see how coordinating two schedules will work out.
