Working travel and part time permanent

So I'm sure there's another traveler out there that is doing what I'm doing...working a travel job (full time) and my permanent job (part time) both are ER's. I've ran into an issue with scheduling- I had some days placed in my contract that I thought I worked at my perm job-5 of those days changed. I have one taken care of and 2 are the second week of the contract and the other 2 are hopefully far enough out I can manage to get it changed. I'm trying to get them covered, however if I can't the facility is saying they aren't sure what they can do... Needing advice on this situation and what will happen-since I can't obviously be in 2 places at the same time- yet I don't want to call in "sick" at my perm job but don't want to be disrespectful or disrespected at travel....

If you must keep your PT staff job (why exactly?), try to negotiate a better commitment, like 15 days a year. Monthly commitments are not going to mesh well with travel.

I was thinking about doing this same thing. My manager at my current full time job is quite the handful, I would leave but I'm in a contract and don't want to pay 5k to get out of it right now, but I also want to get a local travel contract under my belt before taking the plunge and heading to cali for an assignment. I was planning on going part time and doing a contract 51 miles away, enough that I can commute and still function at my current job. Reading your post though makes me think that scheduling might make this a bit more difficult than expected.

First thing, get off of part time, do prn/per diem with less requirement and flexibility.

Personally I would call in to the part time job since the travel job is contracted as your primary job.

This is not for the OP but the last post, 51 miles isnt a magic number. If you are commuting and dont need a second residency to work at that job then you arent legally eligible for tax free stipends. I see alot of people do this and have met a few that have been caught. Talk about a big irs bill.....

Hello, I also had the same thought. I want to keep my full time job (3 x 12) and pick up a local travel assignment. I wonder how much I'd have to pay back in taxes???
