Working in Perth

I haven't worked in WA, so I don't have any specific information for you, and I don't know how things compare to conditions in Singapore. Where I work (in acute care in Melbourne), we have patient attendants on occasion, to help with washes in the morning. The culture of my hospital in general, and the ward I work on in particular, isn't really up for staff taking a whole lot of informal breaks, and I'm not aware of staff being treated differently based on where they've come from. As you say, though, places vary in theor cultures - though what it sounds as though you've heard from your friend may be indicative of one ward in one hospital, rather than being representative of the whole country.

Hello fellow nurses. I am a US-educated, BSN-prepared RN who has been approved for sponsorship to work in a mental health facility in Western Australia. I subsequently applied for the Long Term Business Visa or Work Visa two months ago, but I have still heard nothing from DIMIA after series of emails trying to know what is going on. Could someone who has gone through the process before or going through the process now help me out in terms of the processing time for a work visa, particularly for nurses. I will be very delighted if anyone can be of help. Thank you fellow care-givers!!!

Talking to others who have applied through DIMIA it id probably faster to faster and easier to rebuild the Kon Tiki by hand and row over here and I would bet by the time you land they would still be fiddling around with it:p

HI I wonder if this is the right forum to ask this question.... What's the downside of working as a nurse in perth, Australia?.... I'm currently getting my work visa approved...but have been like hearing some stuff from a friend who's working at freo..So hope you guys could help me out...
Is is true there's no one at all to help with bathing or bed bathing a patient ?
Do local stuffs tend to go for "many frequent" breaks unofficially during work hours and get non local staffs to cover for them??
anyway...I understand that each country will have its own kinda pros and cons in the nursing culture...
So I really hope someone can enlighten me on these issues...Just wanna know the truth so that i am prepared to face it when i come over to work...

I work at charlies in the emergency dept and love it. It's one of the best places I've ever worked. The atmosphere and the staff are great. Having said that I have never worked on the wards upstairs but from I believe they are well staffed. The patient to nurse rario is generally about 4-5. Thereb is always help showering,bathing pats etc as there is alot of team nursing done. The breaks for a 81/2 shift is a 15 min tea break and a 1/2 hour dinner break and I have never heard of regular staff getting non locals to cover for them.

Hi. I have worked at Freo hospital and hearing about this stuff is new to me :confused: The other nurses that i have worked with have always been supportive and help each other out. i guess it all depends what ward you work on.
