You are very true that sand groppers are hard to convince that they are as backwards as ever. Some are changing their views, I reckon, but some are very entrenched in their old ways that it is almost impossible to convince them otherwise. I am a Clinical Nurse and left my old job because the CNS has no clue as to what innovation and Evidence-based practice is. I told her that in the USA, she probably will not be made a CN. It is backwards but we are making a head-way in convincing rather than confusing West-Aussies that they need to buckle up or will be left behind by the train of development and advancement. Good point you have raised indeed. I agree with you.

In Western Australia, most foreign nurses are expected to complete one semester of course work before being registered. This course will cost you about $7,000 and covers four subjects. I know there may not be very much of us, but I have been approached by few US-trained nurses in Aussie about starting a forum that can be shared with Aussie-trained Aussies. I don't know what you guys think about it,but we can give it a go. i am a nurse in WA and I understand we may be far off from the east coast both in distance and approach to nursing. I have not worked in the east coast, but I know comparing WA to the US, there is a lot of catching up needed. What is your take on this? Ta

I am quite convinced that with the emergence of pseudo-nursing professions and their consolidation and retrieval of nursing responsibilities, in time to come, there may not be much left to do in the name of "nursing" making the profession essentially irrelevant. This is my piece.

Just like you, I am a BSN-prepared US graduate now working in Perth, Western Australia. With almost two years experience, I was able to secure a job here and I'm loving it. Go for a metropolitan hospital and not "rural" at least the first few years in Australia. And for the visa, provide all requirements at first, and it takes about 6 weeks. Having walked that terrain, assistance is on the corner when you need it. But remember that the first thing is to pass NCLEX and get a US license first, which all Australian States' Board of Nursing ask from US graduate. Like me, your dream is realizable. Good luck!

Hello fellow nurses, I am wondering if any of you is conversant with the processing time of the Perth Business Center, an arm of DIMIA in Western Australia processing visa applications for nurses intending to work in Perth, WA. I am a US-trained, Bachelor of Science in Nursing holder, and I have been sponsored to work at a Mental Health facility in Perth Western Australia. I subsequently applied for the work visa more than two months ago, but have not heard from DIMIA. Does anyone know the processing time for work visas, particularly for nurses intending to work in the Perth area of Western Australia? It can sometimes be frustrating when no one from DIMIA will reply emails requesting knowledge of processing times and how much longer one could wait. I will be delighted if any one could be of help in this direction, especially those going through the process now or those who have gone through the process in the past. Hello fellow nurses. I am a US-educated, BSN-prepared RN who has been approved for sponsorship to work in a mental health facility in Western Australia. I subsequently applied for the Long Term Business Visa or Work Visa two months ago, but I have still heard nothing from DIMIA after series of emails trying to know what is going on. Could someone who has gone through the process before or going through the process now help me out in terms of the processing time for a work visa, particularly for nurses. Thanks qwineth for the suggestions and links. I am looking into starting the immigration process in the next few days. I am also sending out my registration application today. All I want to do is see the big city Aus and small town Aus, work and enjoy life to the fullest-from soccer to surfing. I would like to start wherever I can first and go from there. I know the big cities are good to start, but there might be stiff competition with new graduates who would prefer the city. One can start in a not-too-vibrant city and move on from there.
