To you nurses who do night shifts only can you tell me about night shift there. we do 12 hour shifts in the carribbean , do you guys get a paid break. Lastly I am concern about the amount of sueing in the usa it's something not so "heard of " in the carribean.

Do have a good day all.

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

Has a lot of good golf courses, that always works for me

There are jobs-a-plenty here in NM.

You can pick and choose and make your own deal as far as hours, days off and pay. You can have your pick of hospital, LTC, home health. New Mexico has a wide variety of scenes in which to live. Mountains, desert and everything inbetween. The climate here cant be beat. We get about 320 sunny days a year. The highs for most of the state in the summer are 80's and 90's with low humidity. Highs in the winter average in the 40's-50's (Alb). We get a bit of snow mostly in the northern half of the state. The culture is rich with a lot of hispanic and Indian influence.

Ditto to everything Rusty said!

Many nurses I work with work for agencies or travelling companies. Perhaps working as a traveler will be a good opportunity to see if New Mexico is for you?

I am due to fly out late Feb.. and start working early March, new culture and everything I am a bit exicted and concern, hey no one mention the sueing (smile) .I have seen some sites in roswell that's where i'm going > how often does it snow there and it's a bit cold winter time not so,

thanks for the reply:D

I am not sure how often it snows in Roswell it is a bit south east of me, but I can't imagine more than a few times a year. Winter is short here, so it will start to warm up about march. Good luck in your new job!

Specializes in Trauma, Teaching.

I've worked in New Mexico for over 15 years, and I love it. We have a lot of gorgeous scenery, but compared to the Carribean you won't see much green! (except for the mountains).

Getting sued in the US happens, but not as often as the media would make it seem. Knowing your hospital's policies and keeping to them is good protection, but most of the time hospital's settle out of court because its cheaper even if you didn't actually do anything wrong.

There are hospitals that are union and some that aren't. Mine is, makes for better conditions than without here. We have a choice of 12 or 8 hour shifts, and I work only nights, which get a quarterly bonus as well as night differential.

Roswell is "aliens" because it's a good tourist draw, otherwise very few people would know it exists:roll

Welcome to the Land of Enchantment!

New Mexico is a beautiful place for sure...I live in Texas but love to visit there as often as I can! I'm sure you will love it!
