Greetings folks,
Wondering if anyone has had a job while going to one of the one year private LVN programs?
I'm presently a home health aide for medically "higher maintenance" consumers, presently licensed as an EMT-Basic and phlebotomist though the latter lapsed and I've never worked in it. Planning to become CNA soon and renew my phlebotomy.
What I'm wondering about, is working as a CNA or tech while going to an LVN program.
When I went to school 16 years ago most of us did work very part time. I worked a couple four hours shifts a week. Looking back, I would have saved myself some stress by just not working. The bit of money I was making wasn't worth it.
I go to school full time and have to work weekends. It's all time management. I have higher grades than my non working classmates. It's all motivation.
I'm the only student left in my class who works....everyone else who juggled both failed out. It's not a matter of smarts or toughness; it is insanely difficult to balance school, sleep and enough downtime to keep your brain from turning to mush. I'm more than halfway through, my grades are great, but I would never recommend it to anyone, honestly. I'd say do part-time RN first. Instant gratification is why there will always be LPN schools!
I'm one of several students in my class. I'd say about 1/3 of the class works and we all come strolling in, heavy eyed and delirious. For a while, I wasn't the only one who used to sleep in my car during lunch. LOL
I'm actually shocked that no one's failed out...but you gotta want it. That's how it is.
Somehow, some folks manage to pull 12's through the week and come to school for clinicals 8-5.
I had enough of that. I merely work doubles on the weekend with a few hours or so during the week. 6 -10pm and I take care of psych geriatric pts. Nuff said.
Monday morning, I'm sore and tired. Happy that there are no clinicals or quizzes on Mon-Tues. So...I usually just text the instructor and tell him that I'm going to be late. I sleep in on mondays. LOL I'll come to school at like 1:00.
REFRESHED AND READY TO LEARN!
LOL
I know. It's bad.
Whatever.
With the grades? It's all time-management. I cannot really study on the weekends.
Also, I can work this shift now. When I was doing the Med Surg/Pharm combo? No way could I have worked as I do now...

Hi I will be starting LPN school in July at Toledo School Of Practical Nursing. Is anyone familiar with this school? If so, any tips or advice?
