Working conditions

So I have been in nursing for some years now and I wanted to ask if other people feel like the working conditions and pay/benefits are decreasing? Also do you deal with being concerned about this only to be told that you should just be happy to even have a job and that it's not bad that you are just a cry baby. Some of the nurses I know who have 20 plus years say for those of us with 5-10 years experience we shouldn't complain we should just be happy because we are easily replaceable and for less.

Oh yeah. Things ain't what they use to be.

Except for sign-on bonuses. It seems hospitals around here pay more to bring 'em in than to keep 'em.

Well, in the St. Louis and Illinois metro-east area, there are still lots of opportunities for nurses- both RN and LPN.

I know lots of nurses who are moving around all the time.

20 years in, yes there is definitely a change, and not for the better. No sign on bonuses in my area, and the treatment of healthcare professionals gets worse all of the time, by patients and by managers

Less pay, less benefits (medical insurance costs at LOT more than in the past), less respect from both middle and upper management. More respect from doctors, however. They no longer talk down to us like many did in the 80's-90's. We used to get bonuses at Christmas, but now only the upper management and doctors get bonuses and expensive gifts.

I know in our area we have a problem with them still talking down to us. But its not at every hospital i float to.
