I've worked nearly 2 years in psych as my first RN job, but I think I could benefit tremendously from a new graduate program. I feel like a new grad, or a worse than that since new grads have more knowledge fresh in their minds.
Has anyone who has already worked ever been considered for a new graduate program?

From my area I won't get specific but unfortunately after half a year we can't apply to a new grad program anymore. Hence why I don't have a job still since grad, I missed my opportunity.
But I wish you good luck! I'm sure your psych experience will come in handy despite what other people say. :)

Not in my area BUT they sometimes have specialty transition programs so a psych nurse of 2 yrs can train in another specialty. Not as long as new grad but gives the specialized knowledge such as a peri operative course for the OR, critical care classes for ICU, etc. depends on your areas

sadly no. new grad programs are for new RN's so if you went to a community college and got your RN then graduated from BSN you're considered an experienced RN. Good luck

You'll have to look at each new grad program, as the specs vary. Some will accept you if you haven't been working in acute care. Most have a time limit as far as how long ago you can have graduated. I was fortunate to find a position in my desired specialty where they are doing training for experienced nurses coming from other specialties. We are in class alongside students in a new grad program, but are actually employees. Our orientation is 12 weeks, give or take based on performance, plus the classes, which have been great.
Thanks to all who answered. I found my answer: It varies. Some will allow it and others won't. I know someone who is not considered the textbook definition of "new grad" but got into a new grad program. I applied for a new grad program and got called for an interview, and they know that I'm not really "new grad."
HEY ANYONE READING!!! JUST FOUND OUT I GOT INTO A NEW GRADUATE PROGRAM!!
