There has been a little off topic activity on another thread so I guess it's time for the 2015 work thread

Please introduce yourself, and post about your jobs for the year. Share opportunities, and network.

I'm Big Al. I am an LPN who has been working at a PA summer camp for the past four seasons. I am currently negotiating my contracts for 2015. My wife and I have a new baby so my usual summer job cannot house us. I am persuing other opportunities right now, and hope to sign a contract by next week.

Congratulations kayakqueen! Please keep in touch and let us know how it goes. Most of us end up in PA, NY, and other northern places. I would love to hear how it is down south. I personally have ruled Texas as to flat and hot to even think about.

I'm Tammy, part-time med-surg nurse, part time RN student, I have volunteered for a week/or more at a camp about 2 hrs away, my teen daughter will attend camp for the week we are there. It will be our third experience with summer camp, our last was INTERESTING! lol My daughter ended up with lice :( . So hopefully no lice this time!

This is my first year to accept a job. After I signed a contract I haven't heard back from the camp at all. Is this normal or do you get any type of communication leading up to camp? I am just going to be 27 hours from home and don't want to make a bad choice in camps.

If you signed the contract your good to go. Generally my old camp would send out two emails for the nurses. The first one about 30 days pre camp and the last 7days before arrival. If your nervous just put in a call.

Thanks!! I'm just nervous and don't know what to expect!

The first year can be so nerve wracking! I remember leaving my house, two little girls in the backseat and I felt like I had no earthly idea what we were getting in to. My camp has a Facebook group, where people ask questions. Does yours?

Yes they do but it's more counselors from oversees asking traveling questions. I haven't seen anyone else but the counselors in there posting.

Hi, this is Janice. I am a full-time pediatric nurse--except for the summer when I get to be a camp nurse. Heading back to Camp Androscoggin in Maine for my 21st summer. We are an all-boys camp with about 275 boys for the summer. As of my last discussion with the director, we are still looking for nurses if you know anyone that is interested.

Hi group,

I've been reading this forums posts for months and am finally now chiming-in. I'm an acute care peds nurse in British Columbia, Canada. My husband and have both acccepted jobs at a private residential summer camp, starting in June. This camp is pretty small (average of 100 campers per session) and does not serve kids with special needs or complex health issues. I'll be the only camp nurse and he will be a director for a group of teen campers. This is my first time back at camp since I was a 15-year-old camper and I'm STOKED! I'm reading "The Basics of Camp Nursing" by Erceg & Pravda, and "Camp Nursing Circles of Care" by Casey, to try to cram as much book knowledge as I can before the real-deal starts. I will be looking to you all for tips and tricks to help me have a smooth summer...

Camp Nursing Circles of Care is hands down the best reference out there. I highly recommend it. Please keep us updated on how your summer goes!

School Nurse here. I will be working in a Jewish camp in PA. First time as a camp nurse, but I have gone to camp for many years as both staff and a camper. I'm so excited. This camp has a larger infirmary staff, including a full time doctor, so I think it is a great first gig.

Going to be working at a summer camp up in maine for the first time this summer. Hopefully my two years in the ED have prepared me well enough :). Excited to be working back at a summer camp again but in a different roll this time.
