Do what you can. I worked pt, went to school at night and have a 4 year old I made it through I also know several other women in my class who worked Ft and supported their entire family while In school

Well, it depends on what you mean by 'need money' for your girls. If you're struggling to put food on the table and keep your electricity on, then yeah, you may need to explore some employment options. But if you feel you need money to pay for their iphones or new clothes or other things they can really do without until you have a nursing job or things they can get jobs and pay for themselves, then maybe it's necessary to have a family chat about sacrifice. We had to have a similar talk with my teenaged sons when I started nursing school in August to let them know that we would not be going out to eat or to the movies and that Christmas would be lean. My oldest son got a job bussing tables and so when he wants something, he has to pay for it himself. Since money is tight, he even pays for his own haircuts and school lunches.

I know it's rough. There are just a few people in our class who work, just part time, and they are the ones who are struggling the worst. I hope it works out for you.

Before getting a 2nd chance at becoming a nurse(i failed out of RN school) i was at my previous job(insurance company) for 12yrs. I quit in Aug because they wanted me to choose between school & them & i chose school because i had worked very hard to get my gpa back up so i could apply to a Lpn school. I got accepted in may & waited til the 1st wk of aug to put in my 2 weeks notice. From Aug til the end of oct i didnt work BUT i started a part time nurse tech job the 1st week of november & i only work Mondays, Fridays & Saturdays! I chose the days i wanted which works out good for me i like to keep my weeks open for studying, i may work 3 8's or a 8 & 2 12s. Im so use to working that i couldnt not work. I have a 3.7 gpa so as long as you still put your time into studying, i think you will be fine. Just wait til almost the end of the semester to work so you can have a idea how the semester will work for you. Good luck

Good advice all around. I plan on keeping one shift a week until I see how hard school will be for me. I know some classes will be hard and some will be easier, so I will just pace myself as I go. I want to keep seniority at work, and eventually be the lpn there after I pass the State Boards.

I am currently attending a one year practical nursing program and I work part time ( 30 hours a week ) and also have a 6 week old baby boy at home. If you are really serious about becoming a nurse Im sure you would do fine going to school and working at least part time. I wish you the best!
