Work and nursing school advice

Published

Hi,

I will be applying to nursing school as soon as my prereqs are done. I currently work from home 7 days a week as a medical transcriptionist. I have 3 young children, so being home has been a blessing.

I am currently working on my CNA level I and II and the hospital that I currently type for is would like me to look into working as a CNA 2 days a week (12-hour shifts). They are willing to match my current pay to start.

While in school, will it be eaier to work 20 hours a week from home M-F or work two 12-hour shifts at the hospital?

I have no idea what to expect with school so I don't have any idea what to do???

Any thoughts are appreciated - thanks!

it would be easier to work from home, and more family friendly, but working as a CNA will give you good experience

Hi. If you can afford it, work as a CNA while in school. You can learn a great deal, and you won't be shell-shocked after graduation. I worked as a tech and Extern throughout college, and I am sure I would'nt have been able to make the transition nearly as easily if I had not done so.

Plus, if you work for some time as a CNA and prove yourself, you can transition quite easily into an RN position within that org. after school. It is getting tougher for new grads to find jobs; esp. those with little or no real clinical experience. Good luck to you!
