Work and LPN school?

During my schooling for LPN I worked weekends as a CNA at a local nursing home, but I only worked between 5-8hrs every other weekend. I do not have any children yet but there were several in my class that did as well as a co-worker who worked full time while going for her RN. She made it through although she did say it got stressful at times, but I think nursing school is whether you have children or not. I think if you have a good support system and someone good to help you along it will all work out. I am hoping to get enrolled to go on for my RN and I still plan on working full time doing school in the evenings and weekends, finally got that day shift position I want and I really don't want to lose it! I was advised not to work at all if I could and I chose to only work one weekend a month to keep my job through school. I'm glad I chose that because I couldn't have made it through otherwise. Everyone else in my class that started out working full time either had to quit their job because it was too much or dropped to very part time. You can try working but keep in mind nursing school is like having 1.5-2 full time jobs. I had lecture for 7 hours some days, then had to the hospital and prep for the next day which would include care plans, med sheets, a full patient profile work up. Plus you have to study for your lecture class and read the chapters which are about 30-40 pages on average long. We never got assigned just 1 chapter to read it was usually 2-3. You have to study meds, what you went over in labs- assessments, techniques, rationales. It is a lot of work, but well worth it in the end. I makes you really appreciate your education.

Hi! I currently work weekends only at a local nursing home, I work 16 hr shifts. I am refreshing my math skills so i can pass the entrance test for the LPN program. It starts in January. Have any of you worked weekends only and attended school? I have a 2 year old so I probably won't get much studying done until she sleeps at night, then on the weekends I will be working my butt off! So I'm just looking for words of encouragement or some tips on how you worked and went to school full time. I really enjoy my job and don't want to quit!

Well you already work in a nursing home so your good, you will have to and your family will have to sacrifice but what can you do.

Hi sky89, good luck with the math entrance test. It took me 3 times b4 I passed mine and then I had to take a science test.
