I'm a new lpn grad, I just got hired in my first job, the nurse's aide are so mean. My preceptor reported one of them to the nurse supervisor for being Disrespectful towards me .They've been giving me dirty looks, and when I say Hi some of them don't even say hi back. It makes me feel so unwanted

All I can suggest is get used to it. For your own sanity, ignore any negativity & just be yourself. Eventually things will get easier. Try to help them whenever possible & don't pay too much attention to it.

To be honest I know this sounds dumb but they r probably jealous of you. Being an aide is really hard and although I never acted like that when I was an aide I definitely envied the new nurses because I always thought they had it so much easier. Now I know that's now true:) lol just try to be nice to them and if u lend a hand when it seems like they are overwhelmed I know that will help the situation and you will gain their respect. I always wanted the nurses to prove that they were hard workers before I was super nice to them

Not*** true

If there's one aide who gives you attitude and doesn't seem to like you, it's probably just an attitude problem on the part of that aide. If *all* the aides are acting this way, maybe you need to re-evaluate your approach. If you are looking at it as "they're all just mean", you're just feeding into the "us vs. them" atmosphere that already seems to exist on you floor.

I am a new nurse. I began with my aides by asking their input and helping them out with lights, bed checks etc. I would ask them questions and let them feel like they are important, which they ARE! You need your aides, and they need to feel important and appreciated. Asking them to help orient you gets it off to a good start, even if you already know the answer ask them something. It brings you down to earth, shows that you do not think you are better than them or that you know everything. I also say please and thank you even for tasks they are required to do. I also brought in a meal for my girls after a couple of weeks to say "thanks" for the help and support they gave me. That worked for me. And do not forget that they may have had bad nurses before you and are expecting you to be the same way. Try to see their perspective.

If they are disrespectful and mean, but still do what you need them to do, it is unpleasant but the work is getting done. Which is the goal. If all of the aides are giving attitude and NOT doing what needs to be done, then that would be an issue. To say "this isn't about me, it is about the residents." Also recognize the aides that do what they are needing to do, attitude or not. A thanks so much you all rocked it today, and I appreciate it goes a long way.

I don't know the circumstances, but I would add that your preceptor did you a disservice by reporting an aide on your behalf while you were still on orientation. This likely left a bad taste in the aide's mouth, and I'm sure she wasted no time telling the other aides all bout how that new nurse (aka you) is a total you-know-what. Thus contributing to the general atmosphere of tension. Sadly, your preceptor seems to have gotten you off to a bad start with the floor's aides.

i would ignore them and keep doing good job. Or you could always kill them with kindness.
