Im an Rn in Missouri planning to move to the Houston burbs in the Summer. I'm currently thinking of living in either Sugarland , Katy or Woodlands. I'm also considering Missouri city. I'm married with school age kids. Could any one give me a better idea of which of the aforementioned burbs would be the best to raise a family- low crime and cosmopolitan ? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm biased: I live in The Woodlands, and aside from the Houston climate which you can't avoid, I wouldn't live anywhere else. It's amazing. You really need to come down and see for yourself. Both Katy and Sugarland have nice areas, and more hospital choices to work for, but The Woodlands is the best place to live, period.

Katy, Sugarland and The Woodlands are all quite nice and are growing. The Woodlands is a master planned community which means all your shopping, entertainment and dining can be done without leaving The Woodlands. Sugarland is probably a bit closer to town and perhaps therefore more "cosmopolitan", if you mean that in the traditional sense. The Woodlands has a higher average house value than the others, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your budget. Missouri City has some nice sections and rough sections, I'd check that out closely before you enrolled your kids in any school there.

Glad to hear you will be joining our ranks! WELCOME to TEXAS!!
Katy has a very good school district - a wide range of house prices from 'affordable' to multi-millions. There are three new hospitals opening in the area, so job growth is a pretty sure thing. Lots of shopping, including the Katy Mills mall. Now that all the construction is over on I-10, travel to and from Houston is a breeze.

They are all good- I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them. I do like Sugar Land and Fort Bend ISD has some good schools. Good luck with the move!!!
Thanks alot for this info. It's surely very helpful and i believe it would be very hard to get similar info. anywhere else. I'm also kind of eliminating Missouri City from my list and therefore appear to be zeroing in on the other three. I thought I could find a decent 4-bedroom house in the Woodlands but probably this area might be out of reach for an RN. I'm therefore leaning towards Katy especially coz of the good schools as rbezemek mentioned. Anyone knows the nurse- patient ratio on a med/ surge floor in Katy Hospitals or even Sugarland ?
Unless you're planning on buying a mansion, The Woodlands' home prices aren't any higher than other nicer areas around Houston. In fact, compared to places like West U and Rice it's cheap.
Thanks alot for this information. I happened to be reading posts on Texas and stumbled upon this "notorious" Group One background agency. I have no issues with my background but i found this Group One to be scaring. Does Houston hospitals participate in Group One ? I hope not !

I think group one is mainly in Dallas...but I could be wrong. I am in The Woodlands...well technically like 2 miles south and the housing here is very reasonable and we are in a great school district...Klein. Check out Spring! Easy commute to the hospitals in The Woodlands if that is the direction you are looking!
