Wondering about how long it takes for an AZ license?

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi all:

I was wondering how long it takes for the Arizona Board of nursing to process a license by endorsement? Once they get all the information, how long does it take to get the actual license? I have tried to contact them via email- but I just get information cut and pasted into the return email from their web site ( which I have read multiple times) with no real explaination!!!! As far as I know they have all my information, they haven't sent an email stating that anything is missing. Just curious if anyone knows? I am a Canadian nurse (obviously) with an initial license in Michigan and am wondering if that make it longer or does it matter.? I would really like to be in Arizona by the fall/ winter!!!! Will that happen???? Any ideas??? Thanks I appreciate it.

I don't have any direct knowledge, except to say that AZ government is very fixated on citizenship and fingerprints. My fingerprint card took almost 6 weeks, and I'm a US citizen. My wife is Canadian, and they wouldn't give her an AZ driver's license because her green card was in her maiden name - it took months to get that straight. Not sure how the BON works, or if they would work concurrently on verifying your licensure, or if it sits in a pile until they get proof of citizenship & prints back.

FWIW, it looks like you have plenty of time to make it by fall, - there is an option for a temporary license if it comes to that. As someone who grew up in Michigan and moved here to the desert - I'd advise you to wait until Sept-Oct to come to AZ. July and August in AZ are hotter than the devil's armpit, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. All that talk about a "dry heat" is hogwash - 110+ degrees is HOT!.

Rzyzzy- Thanks for the information. It does get very hot there...hahahah.....I have been there during those months, a couple of times...and I totally agree. I would take that heat over the -35 that we get here in the dead of winter......I am almost certain that this whole thing will take a few months to go thru especially with the new immigration stuff that is required ... Thanks again.

FWIW, I looked over the license application at the BON, and according to that, you're looking at 150 days minimum, 270 days maximum ..

Don't forget to clear your calendar for the "Great Canadian Picnic" in Feb in south mountain park.

Yeah, I'm in Phoenix in a "fast track" lpn program that ends in December. If everything goes as scheduled, I can wear a nurse pin to the picnic!

I was an LPN prior to my science degree in nursing....It is a great career even with the odd bad day with mean and ungrateful people....Good luck with everything , and thanks for you help...

Have you gotten your license yet?

Have you started working yet?
