wondering about Extern positions and graduate nurse jobs...

Published

I am still in school and will graduate this may. I just got hired not to long ago as a Student Extern in the ER. How many of you were hired in the same dept you were externing in? Did you have to reinterview for position or did they just change your title to graduate nurse or if already taken boards RN. Or did you have to find another job some where else? Just curious what the norm is for this kind of thing. Thanks!

I am just finishing my last semester in the ADN program. Most of my classmates work as externs and all were offered a job when they graduate including me. How it works is when you complete school you are then an extern II until you take the boards. Once passing then you are a new grad RN. No extra interviews are neccessary that I have heard about.

Good luck :)

i think that being an extern is an excellent way of getting more clinical experience as well as the opportunity to secure employment before graduating.

Does anyone know anything about midwifery. I'm thinking about getting my masters in Midwifery only because i'm LOVING my OB clinical. If anyone can give me any information on it, it would be appreciated. Thanks
