I have a lot of anger....about the process. At Valley Review I was disappointed that I had NO pride in my school. It is sad.

What exactly happened at Valley review ?

Sorry I know this is kinda off topic....but would you have preferred to do clinicals in Tampa or Naples because I am really trying to choose but am confused on where would be the best situation.

Just curious, being from the area I was wondering how you guys document your cases. As I understand it there are approx 200 students enrolled at any given time, and with the naples area having such a limited # of OR's there are always 2 and sometimes 3 students in each OR. Do each of you document that case as your own even though you are "sharing" the case?? Just wondering??

the answer to your question is yes we have 2-3 students per room The new students have a task list to check off. the other students usually alternate cases but frequently we share and yes we both count the case. I just graduated but I have friends still in and some that work there. Wolford is owned and operated by the Anesthesiologists at the hospital. the students do a lot of jobs normally done by the nurses and anesthesia techs. Producing a professional independent CRNA is not their goal.

Do you feel like you are ready to be on your own in a case? What you described doesn't sound adequate. I'm not surprised to hear that anesthesiologists have a lot of control. As has been stated by a few participants in these forums, some have a specific agenda to prove that CRNAs are inferior, and what a better way than to produce inferior CRNAs. Have you considered sharing your experiences with the accreditation people now that you have graduated? Sounds like the program is just taking too many students which can be fixed easily.

Yes i love my job! the crnas r awesome!!!! And very helpful and mentoring. I was so discouraged when i graduated but now i know what its really like to be 1 As a student we had plenty of time alone on nights and weekends the crnas dont take call. they have a hard time keeping crnas(they r a repressed group of wolford grads) so sometimes one mda has 2 student rooms. during the weekdays everything gets conjested. The next classes r even larger than mine was everyone was sure they wouldnt get their 10 yr accreditation for more reasons than just size but they did and I will not jepordize my friends future by stirring up trouble for them I feel clinically i was prepared.

Great! Sounds like you are doing well and that's what is important. I think it's normal the question your readiness when you first graduate, but you're on your own and doing well. The best thing is you enjoy anesthesia and that's what makes the difference between an OK and a great CRNA. As for your friends in the program the accreditation process is to protect them, not to hurt them. They won't do anything to put the current student's education at risk, but I understand how difficult it is to be in your situation. Good-luck in your career!
