Without WaitList? Transfer? Give a bet? I need your helps@Nursing

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone,

First of all, every reply are very helpful to me. I really need some suggestions.

I am an International student in Mt.sac right now. I major in Nursing.

Recently, Mt.sac closed its nursing application so no one can apply to it until aprox. 2007 Fall.:scrying:

I completed most of the prereq. classes and GEs.

Now i am facing the decision of stay in Mt.sac to give a bet, or transfer to CSULA. By the way, Mt.sac nursing program is using lottery system, so GPA is meaningless and everyone has the same chance to get picked.

However, I am only an average student with 3.2 cumulative GPA.

1. If I am staying Mt.sac to wait for it open its program, I might study Histotechnology while I am waiting for the reopen of the program and the later on waitlist. International Students always need 12 units to become a full time student in order to keep their Visa.

2. So if I am going to CSULA, the schedule for my next semester will be totally different cuz I will take CSULA's transfer prereq. classes instead of HistoTech classes. **The "THING" I am worry about after I transfer to CSULA is that I do not know what classes I can take while I am waiting for its waitlist. I suppose to fullfill the 12 units requirement, but seems like I have no class to take since I complete all the prerequisite.

3. IS THERE ANY SCHOOL HAS NO WAITLIST OR SHORT WAITLIST? Doesn't matter if it's private or public, and the price is not a problem as well. Of course, I hope the school is at southern california. I live in Chino hills, 15 minutes away from Mt.sac. ** I really hope someone can inform me on this question.

So basically, there are 3 choices. One is stay in Mtsac and study HistoTech. One is transfer CSULA but not sure what classes I can take during the waitlist. One is go private/medical/public school that has NO or SHORT waitlist. Please give me some suggestion and informations that can help me to decide my future pathway. Lead me to the right direction. I do not want to spend more than 6 years to complete my ADN or BSN. Lastly, I appreciate you time and helps.

Thank you,

Howard W.

Since you sya price is not a problem, IMHO you should go to a private school with no waiting list.

I feel for CA pre-nursing students. So many of them come on the forum with this same problem.

Since you have the finances, have you considered a school out of state?

Thank you for your reply first, and I really wanna stay close with my family. And my family doesnt want me to go that far. So my consideration will be only in S-California. Is there any private school you know can let me know that they have No or short waitlist?

If you are looking for a private school in Southern CA, I suggest Mount St. Mary's College. It is located right next to UCLA. Is that close enough for you?

Yes, it's close enough. But do they have long waitlist?

i would say look private. maybe azusa pacific? i am pretty sure that loma linda doesn't have a waiting list.

i am at a different cal state, but i know that they don't allow international students into the nursing program. have you checked that out at CSULA?

Loma Linda is one of the private school I was considering. But I do not know any of informations about its program. And neither the requirements for transfering to its program.

I checked with CSULA, I told them my situation, and they didn't mention that they dont allow iinternational students into the RN program. But their waitlist is about 1~2 years. I cant wait that long.

Can you or anyone of you provide more information about Loma Linda?

By the way, which of the following has the better nursing and a short waitlist?:uhoh3:

1. Mt. San Mary's

2. Loma Linda

3. Azusa Pacific University

4. CSUs

you will have to contact the schools to find out about waiting lists. as far as good...check nclex pass rates

Here's the link to Loma Linda University. The best thing to do is to call the schools you're interested in and ask them about the wait time. Best of Luck.

If you had already have an undergraduate degree, you could take accelerated

BS=>BSN program in Oklohoma City University (Kramer School of NUrsing). They

DO NOT have a waiting list and all you need is 3.0+ GPA in undergraduate and

nursing pre-req.

I am starting from Jan 2007. We could be room-mates ;-)...Good luck !!!

Specializes in OR, MS, Neuro, UC.

Try East Los Angeles College. 3.2 is a decent GPA, they have a good program and an amazing director: Lurlean Gaines. Explain your situation to her, she helps everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck.

2006 ELAC Grad and new RN.:mortarboard: :nurse: :wink2:
