since there have been so many threads started on this, thought that a sticky would answer most questions about this.
1. you must endorse to california, you do not transfer a license. you will continue to maintain an active license in the original state until it expires if you do not renew it.
2. you need to follow the license by endorsement application, you can find it on ca brn website.
3. california requires a completed set of transcripts from your nursing school before they will issue you a permanent license.
4. they need verification from your state licensing authority. if ca has received that or the state is part of nursys, then you can actually go to the brn in sacramento and get a temporary license issued that same day.
5. otherwise, expect it to take about one month for you to receive the license once they have received all documents.
Hi diamondqueen,
I have had no luck contacting CBON by email or phone when I've had questions, so in regards to your question...I sent transcripts from ALL my schools (even one community college where I took just one summer course years ago). Look at it this way, better to send too much than not enough. Good luck!
hi all
i'm a newbie so i apologize if my questions are already found somewhere but i just have a question to ask
I'm a new grad from NJ and I submitted an application for the CA licensure, I sent my fingerprint card, the check, the form, etc and requested the school to forward my transcript (please let me know if i'm missing anything =) I received the confirmation card back last monday...I'm just wondering how long it will take for the whole process, I understand that I should wait 4-6 weeks but I have read from some of the forums that the fingerprint card might make the process longer and also there's a chance they would reject it (i hope that doesnt happen though) If anyone can answer..that would be really great..thank you all
Hi Bogeyboy007!
It seems like you covered everything. It does take four to six weeks to hear from them. I have also heard that it takes longer for the fingerprint card but as I understand it the CA BON will allow you to test without the results they will not issue your license until the fingerprints have cleared.
Are you applying for endorsement or initial licensure? If thru endorsement, and they have received verification from your original state, then they can offer a temporary license that same day in their office in Sacramento.
If you do not hear anything in about six week, then contact them, if you are going thru the initial licensure process.
CA BRN does their own credential eval. They need all transcripts, just as it you were submitting things to an agency such as for the CES to be done. Even though they are on the same transcript, they were not completed there. It is best to have each school submit their own transcript. That way there will be no delays.

thanks for the info!!! I actually received my ATT last tuesday and I finally received the official letter from the BON today. SO I guess it does take about 4 weeks although I think mine was close to three weeks...I scheduled my test already and i'm a little freaked out...wish me luck!!
Well I sure look forward to all the things I have to go through to get a license when I move to CA next week. I sure wish CA was a compact state - that would make things a whole lot easier.
How much is it for the license? And where can I get my fingerprints done? Do they issue a temporary license until your permanent one arrives? How much does a new LPN start off in CA? And about my school transcripts, I am assuming the board would want "official" ones?
I'm sorry if these questions were already covered. I read the thread for the most part and didn't find the answers.
Thanks in advance.

hi,
i have a quick question for you, i hope it is okay. i am going to be a student in a brand new nursing program starting jan. 2008. i will be moving to california after i graduate. i know this school will become nationally accredited since it is a part of another school that is already nationally accredited. my question is this, if i register on nursys will i be able to go to sacramento and get the permit to work the same day like you talked about on the initial thread, even though the school is not nationally accredited yet? i will have taken my nclex and passed state boards before coming to california. i know utah is a part of nursys, any info. you can give would be helpful. thank you so much!
hi suzzane,
I wrote a letter in CA BON whether I can start now applying license by endorsement without the SSN but until now no answer yet from them so I decided to ask this question to you. I came here as tourist ,got a petitioner and will start filing the I-485, I-140, EAD this Friday.I have an active license in NY but I di not work there. Can I start sending the request for my transcript in the Philippines to forward it to CA BON without SSN?
thank you.
