Hello All! I was just wondering if you all are experiencing alot of cut backs because of the economy. The hospital I currently work for has a hiring freeze and also has cut out OT and call pay. We are not allowed to go over our budgeted hours for the week either. I was just wondering if this hospital is the only one experiencing something like this. Thanx!

Hello Smile4stamps!!! I graduated in May from a nursing program in NC. I applied for my license through the CA BON because I knew I was going to relocate to the Bay Area. I sent my application off June 1st and I had approval to take the exam July 2nd. I took the exam July 23rd here in NC, found out I passed July 27th, and received my license August 4th. I requested that my transcripts be sent to the BON day before I sent off my application. I was very pleased in my dealings with the CA BON desipte the horror stories I have heard. I took my test July 23rd and my name was on the website Friday July 29th. It was nerve recking to wait those four day so my heart goes out to you!

I recently interview at UCSF. I took an hour to walk around and talk to nurses there and the ones I talked to seem happy and spoke very highly of the facility. While doing my research, I found that in the Bay area, UCSF has the highest payrate for new graduates. I didn't search for experienced nurses. Well anyway, that is my input.

hello i am a single mother with two children and i graduated from nursing school may 5, 2007. to answer your question, i do not know of any nursing programs that cater to the working mother. before i entered nursing school i checked in the united states and i did not come up with anything. i know there are some online programs but be carefult about these and really do your research. it also depends on if you want to do lpn or rn. i would suggest asking the board of nursing because they are the ones who approves the program in any particular state (that is how i conducted my research). just to let you know, there are some programs out there that will help you to go through school. the us department of health and human services has a scholarship program that pays a stipend every month. try google searching it by entering the following: nursing scholarship us dept of health. here on all nurses there is actually a forum or a sticky that is dedicated to financial aid, scholarships, grants not to mention many threads. you may want to search the site to find these. i got through school by working fulltime nights while taking prerequisites(sp). when i got into the upper division of the program (actual nursing classes), i had to drop to part-time, then 1/4 time, and finally rsp during my last year. we lived off of my monthly military education benefit and financial aid and a little help here and there from good ole dad! lol bottom line is you can do this. so here is my advice: live the life you want today because tomorrow may not be seen. if you have a desire to go to nursing school, then go!! be well informed about your options and may this dream a reality. i wish you the best in all that you do!!! my prayers are with you.

Just be patient and try not to focus to much on it. I know that is easier said than done and I am sure I will be the same way in a couple of weeks. Just know that you did well even if you did reach the 265th question. My prayers are with you!! Oh and CONGRATS:balloons:

Take a deep breathe in, hold it, and breathe out slowly while counting to ten. Your anxiety level is through the roof. Like a early poster said, it takes a while. Try to be patient and do something exciting to take your mind off of it and I will say a prayer for you. You did it!!!!

Hello to all!! I was wondering what are the best areas to live that are close to UCSF Medical Center and good to raise two boys. I am looking for a two bedroom apartments to rent. Any information that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Cjulian214, I just graudated in May and I am about to move to San Francisco in August. I am also a single mother with two kids age 9 and 6. My opinion is this: anything is possible with some planning. Some things I had to consider is that the cost of living is much more in California than where I currently live and who will help with my children while I work. I also had to take into consideration that I will have no family there to support me (this is actually a plus in my book). Ultimately, I made the decision because I like adventure and I desparately need some excitement in my life! I would suggest that you to do alot of investigation about the area and to ask alot of questions. There are some very good threads on this site and others such as craigslist that can be very helpful. Hi Bogeyboy007! It seems like you covered everything. It does take four to six weeks to hear from them. I have also heard that it takes longer for the fingerprint card but as I understand it the CA BON will allow you to test without the results they will not issue your license until the fingerprints have cleared.

I graduated in May and I have just started looking for a position as a nurse. As a previous poster stated I am terrrified of all the responsibility of being a nurse. Most of my classmates had jobs months before graduation. The position I applied for does not start until October. That is just fine with me because right now I am preparing to take the NCLEX so I can pass it the first time and I am also planning to relocate.

Again, thanks to everyone who relied. I am still over joyed about my move and I think I will take route that goes through Kentucky, Kansas, Missouri, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada. I plan to give myself plenty of time to site see. I will be traveling with two boys age 9 and 6 so I am sure they would need some time to unwind everyday (or maybe I need them to unwind everyday). Hello everyone! I just graduated in May and I am relocating to San Francisco. I plan on driving and I was wondering if anyone has ever done this and if so did you take the northern or southern route. Those of you that have driven from California to the east coast can chime in also. Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh and by the way I have had no luck getting thru to the CA BON either. I have been trying to get this question answered for a month now. Thanx again to everyone who replied!!
