Job Market/wages/Ratios?
Hi. My family is moving out of California where I have been working for 3.5 years as a Med/Surg RN. I also float to the Mother/baby unit (where I care for well moms and baby's only, no unstable postpartums and no antepartums. This is the policy of float nurses at my current hospital, I am willing to train to be able to take care of them.) I am wondering what the job market is in Colorado. We have not settled on an area but need to be near a hospital that takes Kaiser Insurance (for my Mother-in-law who retired from Kaiser.) I also am wondering what the typical wage is for Med/Surg RN's. I need to make sure I will be able to cover the bills on a lower salary. I know its personal what you make so starting wages at your hospital or any info you can give would be helpful. Also I am moving from California where we have ratio laws stating we can only have 5 patients to one nurse. What is the typical ratio in CO?

Do the nurses like working there? I've heard the area is not very good and I was wondering if it is safe going to work? Thanks, Paula A New Grad desperatly wanting to start working!

CA license question
Have you already graduated? If not, do you know the date that will be on your transcripts as your official graduation date? I also went to school in WI and am in the process of trying to get approval to take the boards here in CA. The problem I am currently having is the date of my graduation on my transcripts is listed in January even though I have already completed my program. This date being in the future is holding up my application. If I had not already spent the money to the CA BON I would turn around and apply to the WI BON instead as several of my classmates already have thier RN license and it is very disturbing to not know what is going on. All that being said I'm curious to know what New Grad program you are starting as I am still having trouble finding a job! Paula

Delegation assignment
I am working on a delegation assignment and I am having trouble with this case: The nurse aide reports that Mrs. Jones has become comatose and moribund. Although this is not unexpected (Mrs. Jones is a DNR), her family members are not present and you know that they would like to be notified immediately. Can I delgate someone else to call the family? If so can it be the unit clerk or does it need to be an LVN or myself (I'm supposed to be the charge nurse)? Thanks in advance!

Saunders Comprehensive review book
I sent a message to Suzanne but thought I would ask here also. I recently bought the Saunders comprehensive review so I could go through Suzanne's plan however I just discovered that a new version will be available Oct 15. Should I keep the one I have or bring it back and get the new one when it becomes available? I don't graduate till October but was going to get started reveiwing. Thanks, Paula

Suzanne (or anyone else) do you know the hours that are required to be licensed in CA? I have tried searching and have been unable to locate this info anywhere. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks! Paula

WI boards and not a WI resident?
A Question on the application is: What is your state of primary residence? And then, Do youplan to become a WI resident? Did you write California and select no? Or did you select yes? I don't plan to become a WI resident. I would just like to get my license here to make it a faster process and then apply for license by endorsement in CA. I am concerned that if I say I am a CA resident and then select No, I don't plan to become a WI resident that they will deny me.

How long to get approval to take NCLEX and graduate nurse positions in Bay Area?
Here's a thought... Can I apply for a WI license and then actually physically take the NCLEX at a testing center in CA? Or do I have to actually test in WI? Thanks

WI boards and not a WI resident?
Hi Everyone, I am currently attending UWO and will be graduating soon. I had planned to simply take my boards in CA where I am from but thought since I went to school at UWO is might be easier to take them in WI. However, does anyone know if they will approve me to be able to take them if I state I am NOT a WI resident and I have no plans to become one? That is one of the questions on the application so I was just wondering. Thanks! Paula

I am in Wisconsin. I am leaving within a couple days of finishing my program so I will not have time to sit for my boards in WI.
