*Winter 2021* Humber Bridging

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello

I'm contemplating on applying to bridge at Humber and I want some clarification on programs. What is the average students should maintain in the courses? Are students allowed to spread out the courses I.e. take take first semester courses second semester for the first time. Any other advice would be helpful and greatly appreciated please thanks.

I know this is a super late reply, but to answer your question, you would need to maintain at least a 74% in all of your bridging courses (there are 6 of them) in order to move onto the 3rd year with the rest of the students. After you pass bridging, you would just need to maintain a 60% in your core nursing courses until you graduate.

Humber is pretty set on when you would do your courses, there aren't any same course offerings in the fall and Winter semester for the nursing courses. If you fail one or decide not to take one, you would need to wait a whole year to take it, as that is the next offering for a course.

I did my bridging through Humber and just graduated this past May, so feel free to ask any questions!

Hi Ariana,

The info you shared was very informative. Thank you for that. I accepted Humber's offer for Winter 2021 myself and I have a few questions myself regarding the bridging.

1. Is the first sem of bridging online as well when you did it? If so, did you do the midterms, quizzes, and final exam online as well or did you have to go to Humber to do any exam (like finals)?

2. Presuming that vaccines will be available soon, in-class resumption is highly possible. With that in mind, for Summer 2021, which course is online and which is not (Family in Trans, Patient Assessment, and Ethics and Moral Theory)? Like my first question, did you go to Humber for the final exam or for any exam?

3. Can you also tell me more about the UNB Nursing Exam/Evaluation Period?

4. Would you be so kind to share the course outlines for the Bridging program if you still have it?

I thank you deeply in advance for your time in responding to my enquiries. I wish you more blessings and good health.

Hi everyone, does anyone have any information on the time or link to join the orientation on Monday 4th of January, I have been checking my emails and nothing even though we are scheduled for orientation on Monday

Our classes don't start until January 18th, are you sure orientation is on January 4th?

According to the academic calendar for Winter 2021, it says that the orientation is between dates Tuesday January 12, 2021 - Thursday January 14, 2021.

Hi Airina please the courses taken at bridging are those the same courses taken for the second entry nursing preparation program ?

if yes how were u able to maintain 74% all through .

Are you from a science background? I N super worried as I am from a non science background . I wouldn’t want to fail and not be able to proceed into the program .
this alone is giving me sleepless nights

Hello stonepod just wondering how did things work out for you in the end?I am in similar positiong.I didn't know repeating one course would change the trajectory of my entire life.Literally, went to Centennial(which is the worst school by the way),failed patho had to repated and now my avaerage is like 3.7.I desperately want to be an RN (im also older) but it seems this dream is lost. And please athabasca is not it,I know many doing it but online learning is difficulty plus I have family.I keep hoping they willc hange bridging requirments.

They'll never change the requirements, everyone wants to be an RN so things will only get harder.  Humber is ***ED.  Bridging wasn't bad actually, 74% is a lot of pressure but I liked it and did well.  As for the rest of the program, that's another story.

Where to begin?  Research is ***ED.  Acute is ***ED.  The fact that you have a family makes it hard.  Most people in this program don't even have a job except the RPN's.  If you can be older and unemployed, well that's great, but for those who work, like me, good luck.

Other schools aren't much better either.  Mcmaster is terrible to students, same with Nipissing.  Ontario Tech is the best school but it's impossible to get in.

Thank you for reply.I cant say I wish it were better(LOL!)OMG!!This seems hopeless!Like for all international educated nurses they are now getting their papers.I know they did school abroad but its like come on I've gone to school here and only want to better myself.I just need the oppourtunity.I am constantly watching weRPN to see if any changes .I do see some programs have now created compressed  bridging(19 mos fanshawe)but of course you had to go to school there.I guess what I am hoping is that the strict ***ing requirements will lessen.XYrodon, congrats at least you did it bro!I am still here "RPN" it kills me when I saw 21 year olds RN and here I am still RPN with years of experience in med/surge.

Did what?  I haven't done anything yet.. LOL.  6 more months left.  Humber I will say at least credits Seneca or Humber RPN grads with consolidation hours, so props to them for that.  Otherwise, this school is horrible.

As for international nurses, I have personally met very few I am impressed with.  There's a reason CNO makes it hard for them.  Gawd knows why there's millions of them in Canada trying to do bridging when there's RPN's here trying to do the same thing.  It's not about money because there's no shortage of ppl that want to be an RN, especially in the era of lockdowns.

It's not entirely hopeless but Humber is damn hard.  Many of my friends dropped out instead of risking getting kicked out due to the difficulty, they're smart ppl too.  A sad state of affairs.

I wish I was in a program like its such a low .I feel not "good enough."Who knew one bad grade in the rpn program would have such wide spread effects. You are very lucky you are almost done. Not going to lie I am lo key jealous.Le isgh not sure what to do from here with my rpn to RN journey.Feels like it ended before it even began,,:(
