Accepted a position in ICU, starting Jan 8th. I know the job market where I am isn't terrific either, especially in the hospital where I'm employed as a tech. (which is also where I'm to be working as an RN)
Just curious, how come you don't start til March? That seems like quite a while!
Congratulations!
Graduation is January 4 and the paperwork to allow us to take the NCLEX wont be signed by the school until the 8th of January. I figure we wont take boards until the end of Jan start of Feb. So the nurse manager wanted to ensure ample time to relax and enjoy before being worked like a mule :)
The job market in Ohio seems to be good. Where I work they pay for my schooling and you have to work for them after. I figure that will give me plenty of experience if I wish to work elsewhere. Starting pay is $19.08 an hour which isn't great but you get $1.50 for shift and $1.00 for weekend.:icon_cool:
Jobs seems to be plentiful here in N. Texas. All but 1 or 2 of my classmates (class of 30) already have jobs. We graduate Dec. 16th. I accepted an offer in the ICU of a fairly large hospital. Starting pay is $19.65 with no previous healthcare experience. Night shift differential is $4.50 and wknd is $3.50. Oh, and a sign-on bonus of $2000 for days, $3000 for nights.
Another December 16 grad here.....I have accepted a position with UCLA's cardiothoracic ICU. The program for new grads begins mid to late February. Starting pay is $28.83 per hr. if I remember correctly (give or take a few cents), differentials are $2.25 for eves, $4 for nocs, and and additional $2.50 for weekends (on top of other differentials). No sign-on bonuses.
I'm very excited!

In some states (like mine) new grads are finding the job search to be quite difficult. How has your job search gone?
I have been fortunate. I had two offers and just accepted a position.
City/State: Boston, Ma
Job: Telemetry
Salary $25.75 plus PPC $2.25 total $28.00/hr. The hospital that I accepted the offer from has no shift diff. So everyone gets PPC no matter what shift they work (a bit confusing). PPC does increase if a person works evenings/nights. I am curious to see what the new grad salary range is across the country!
I start 4 March provided I pass the dreaded NCLEX-RN!
Good luck to all in your job search!!!
