WILTW 12/10: Now THAT's a BONUS!!!

Published

Hi everyone!

I have wonderful news.

My newly formed nurses' union, which was merely a thought over one year ago, has just ratified our first contract with a 90 percent vote.

Many people are excited and there are a percentage indifferent or unhappy-yet don't understand what's in the contract...I spent a lot of time and will continue to make sure people who don't understand or unhappy that they understand the contract, as well as have concerns to economic issues are supportive towards the. Ext contract negotiations.

For as long as it took to get the contract, my expectation will be a year from now, making a 18-month contract essentially a year contract.

There were many department-specific desires that a contract couldn't ensure EVERYTHING, especially in a first contract, but safety being a primary reason for the contract, that was the most important part, along with giving nurses a true seat at the table to ensure safe staffing, and to stop the economic depression that was occurring for a lot of nurses, especially those who worked at the hospital for 20-plus years.

There must be an attitude adjustment...working unsafe has been the norm so long and so alien to me that during the voting caucus my point raised that protecting he contract and our nurse practice act-advocating for our patients and ourselves that was a mantra that I learned in my PN and BSN studies and something I never let go-is something that we have to ensure, has floated me as a person to be nominated for grievance rep.

I don't believe it, but it will be surprising that I get it.

Also, the drain for experienced nurses continues...there are a series of experienced nurses retiring and replacing them is difficult, and it's not just at my hospital, but happening all over, it hurts the most at my hospital because of the ridiculous labor practices that occurred that made 20 percent of total nursing staff leave, but now has put the hospital at such a disadvantage that they offered triple bonuses, even starting since last week and continuing this week as I make my way to clock in today.

in addition to the ever learning process of being a unionized nurse, I relearned In times of triple bonus pay, I will regress into

work-holic mode. :uhoh3:

So, what have you learned this week?

Are we talking plain, honey nut, or one of the other flavors? I can't stand the plain Cheerios. I think they taste like cardboard soaked in milk. Honey nut Cheerios, on the other hand made the good list... And of course, OC Cheerios is on the good list.

As for what I've learned this week, courtesy of elkpark, is that there's an ICD-10 code for the poop-storm that is my workplace: [h=1]Discord With Boss and Workmates (Z56.4)[/h]

Oh, no!!! Good old plain original Cheerios are THE BEST!!!!! And NONE of the flavored ones - why monkey around with perfection!

NO generic ones - just the originals in the big yellow box! I eat them with milk, with or without sweet. Or mixed with just plain black coffee. Dry - they're great as croutons in soups or salads or on yogurt. I munch them like loose peanuts out of a baggie. (I've ordered breakfasts in restaurants with a side order of dry Cheerios to go to take with me when I leave.)

I AM the Cheerios Kid!

Sorry for the post hijack!

Stadol is a helluva drug & it's crazy!

I also was so happy with the nurse I had during my short visit in L&D. She had been a nurse for 30+ years in L&D & is just a wealth of information. I want to hop into her scrub pocket & learn from her all night. :nurse:

I hope everything is ok. (Hugs).

I finished another semester of my transition program.. I didn't get the grade I wanted, but oh well. I passed. Some days that's all we can ask for. I'm going to enjoy my next month of no school.

*hugs* Sorry you didn't get the grade you wanted but congrats on passing!

I've been having issues with (what I think) is my gallbladder. I'll eat & while I'm eating or right after I will be in tremendous pain & super nauseated. I was in that pain & had that nausea yesterday. I finally went to the ER & they took blood & urine but didn't do an ultrasound. I was kinda upset because I at least wanted *that* done. But oh well.

My OB thinks it's my kidneys & I'm not gonna argue with him but the symptoms I'm experiencing seem to line up more with gallstones. I have a renal ultrasound Monday & see my OB Tuesday so hopefully I'll get an answer (& some permant relief) soon.

Thank you. I hope it isn't either but as long as I eat bland food my body is ok. So that is what leads me to believe it is gallbladder related.

Thank you. I will keep everyone updated. My OB was so sure it is kidney issues but I beg to differ. I couldn't persuade him to get an ultrasound on my gallbladder. Maybe if my renal ultrasound comes back clear he will look into my gallbladder.
