I'm planning on applying to Harbor which is in Wilmington and was wondering is this really is a scary neighborhood. I've read posts here of having cars being broken into and some have told me that I would not want to live there (which I won't be doing). is it dangerous to walk to your car by your self after school or am i overreacting? i know that Harbor has an excellent nursing program and I should be thankful if I do get into a program somewhere, but I'm still worried.

All of Los Angeles is violent to a certain point. If you feel that way maybe you should go to a 'nicer' school in another area. I work at HarborUCLA and live around South LA so I'm used to it. Just be safe and don't leave valuables in your car. Where do you live now?
i live in orange county and have never been to la (except to go to a bakery shop for breads). where have i been right? ive pretty much lived in a bubble..

I live in Wilmington. And down the street from Harbor as a matter of fact. The stories are over exaggerated. I've lived here all my life and nothing has happened to me or my car or my property.
That is good to hear, thank you! :heartbeat I've yet to visit that area yet alone Harbor college. It's on my to do list.
And it's really easy to get here!
If you go down the 405N to the 110S (towards San Pedro), exit Anaheim St. Right at the exit, theres a stop sign. Go to your RIGHT. You'll go down Anaheim St. about a block and you'll see the parking lot as well as the Enrollment Office on your left-hand side. There will be parking to your left. Often times, my sister and I go there at night to run the track and we always see security patrolling the cars so your car should be fine. :)
And most of the time, their program is in the morning and requires you drive to Harbor UCLA hospital which is in Torrance, a bit of an upgrade from Wilmington.

I live in Harbor city. Within walking distance of the college. I agree with the poster stories are way over exaggerated. Crime happens in all areas. There are shootings and home robberies in Brentwood and other highclass areas. The media just tend to focus on the "troubled" cities. Harbor is not in the residential part of Wilmington and they have a sherrif office on site. They are always in thier cars patrolling the area esp at nite when classes get out. My aunt has been going there for years now and never has had a problem. I plan on starting pre recs soon there myself.

When you make the right off the freeway exit Anaheim. But the street your on is Figueroa Pl.... Anaheim is a block to the left. :)
thank you!! so what you're saying is that i dont have to worry about walking to my car, whether it be in the morning or at night, right? i hope i can get into harbor right away; i need to get into a nursing program asap (im sure im not the only one :chuckle).
how do you get to harbor from oc knott's berry farm area? all i know is that i need to take the 91w freeway and the rest is a blur. does 91w freeway turn into something else? how do i get back home? LOL. im really bad with directions so havent ventured out far on the freeways
and is torrance far from wilmington? are there any other sites that i have to travel to for clinicals? if i do gain admission to the harbor nursing program, im afraid gas is not going to be cheap :zzzzz

From the 91 west, you will get the 110 south....and then the same thing back...Is there any closer schools to you? I know the drive will be long...due to traffic. Good luck just be careful like you normally would be!
Errr, yeah! that's what I meant! I'm near Anaheim St. so I wasn't even thinking, haha.
As far as gas, on Figueroa AND Anaheim, there's a Texaco that's pretty cheap atm, as well as a Valero down the street on PCH and Figueroa Pl. Right across the street from Denny's! And Torrance is about uhhhh 10-15 min. from the college if you take the streets and not the freeway. You could always hop back on the 110N, get off on Carson St. and get to Harbor UCLA that way. :)
thank you so much for taking the time to reply :icon_hug: if i do apply and do get accepted, im gonna have to consider moving to la
