  1. I completely disagree. In their moments of lucidity, they remember. I have patients with Alzheimer's that I work with in hospice. I feel they'll never remember me, but when they smile at me and I'm lucky enough to hear them say, "oh, my nurse is here" I know my TLC has made their transition some what easier. Others may not agree that your care made a difference for the pt, but I'm sure your TLC has made a difference in the lives of their families. It's a very hard time and just knowing they have someone there that's understanding can really mean a lot.
  2. For me, it's more of an issue of getting everyone accustomed to call me by my middle name. "What would you like to be called?" "Please call me by my middle name. It's X. Y is my first name." "Ok, we'll do that, Y!" "-______-"
  3. Morphine sulfate, bisacodyl suppository, atropine, ativan and albuterol. Hospice nurse :)
  4. Hello! I'm a new LVN and I just completed my IV/Blood Withdrawal course. I received my certificate and it says I earned 36 hours of CEC. I remember a while ago attending this job fair with my school and we did these seminars which counted as as CEC hours as well. My question is, how many hours do we have to do and how often do we have to do them? Also, who do we turn them in to? Do we ever receive notices in the mail letting us know when our hours are due as well as how many we've done? Does it vary by state? Thank you in advance! K
  5. I read this in another topic, "LVN's are being phased out. Major hospitals just want RNs." I don't mean to cause controversy or anything, but is this entirely true? And if so, why is that?
  6. If you have the experience, you'll be a shoe-in at the hospitals. I'm here in Southern California and having difficulty due to lack of experience. ;_;
  7. Hi! I live right by CSUDH and when it comes to colleges, the best resource is always the college itself. I'm sure if you schedule an appointment with their nursing program advisors, you can tell them your situation as well as ask your questions. :) And post any info you get! =D Where did you get your ADN btw?
  8. Thank you for this info! I'll definitely look into them as well!
  9. Errr, yeah! that's what I meant! I'm near Anaheim St. so I wasn't even thinking, haha. As far as gas, on Figueroa AND Anaheim, there's a Texaco that's pretty cheap atm, as well as a Valero down the street on PCH and Figueroa Pl. Right across the street from Denny's! And Torrance is about uhhhh 10-15 min. from the college if you take the streets and not the freeway. You could always hop back on the 110N, get off on Carson St. and get to Harbor UCLA that way. :)
  10. Manhattan Beach? Or Manhattan in New York? Either way, I think they both exceed San Diego.
  11. And it's really easy to get here! If you go down the 405N to the 110S (towards San Pedro), exit Anaheim St. Right at the exit, theres a stop sign. Go to your RIGHT. You'll go down Anaheim St. about a block and you'll see the parking lot as well as the Enrollment Office on your left-hand side. There will be parking to your left. Often times, my sister and I go there at night to run the track and we always see security patrolling the cars so your car should be fine. :) And most of the time, their program is in the morning and requires you drive to Harbor UCLA hospital which is in Torrance, a bit of an upgrade from Wilmington.
  12. I'm just an LVN. I haven't started yet. :)
  13. I live in Wilmington. And down the street from Harbor as a matter of fact. The stories are over exaggerated. I've lived here all my life and nothing has happened to me or my car or my property.
  14. Hi! Well, I just got my packet in the mail today that I passed my NCLEX-PN and I am totally psyched. So before I could let the euphoria sink in, my dad says, "Great, now you can start looking for RN schools." Ugh, I remember the horror of trying to get in as an undergrad to RN program at so many schools which is why I decided to go the LVN to RN route to at least get some practice/experience in. So I was wondering, is the waitlist pretty much the same? Also, can anyone recommend some good schools for me? I've only found two that seem somewhat legit but I'd like to have more options. LA/OC preferred. Links, advice, tips, etc. would be helpful and I would be so greatful. :)
  15. You can try the Preferred College of Nursing in Carson. I graduated from there about 6 months ago. I know there's another one that just opened up in Torrance. I forget what it's called but I can find out for you. :)
