will universal healthcare ( in the usa) cut RN pay?

Published

I been hearing this debate off and on for a long time about how if Obama gets universal healthcare to go ( if he gets elected of course)though in the US that nursing pay will be cut dramatically. I would think this has to do with the fact that we would all be working for the government and that there will no longer be competition. There are many people in my nursing class that said they will leave nursing if thats the case. I also talked to several doctors that said the same thing about medicine in general. Im just curious if anyone has some good info about this. Thanks

No matter what, patients need health care. It is an absolute shame that our country has gone the way it has. Please do not take this to heart, but what happened to the nursing field??? If (and I have often said this to my students) If you are in this field for the money , you are in the wrong field. I know that there are nursing students out there and want to make a difference, nursing is caring, and feeling. Read some of these forums and read how so many nurses post so many wonderful reads.:redbeatheThere will always be ill patients to take care of , I don't think "competition will be an issue", Also if you heard Obama speak he mentioned the good nurses, and in a very positive way. we need nurses.

YAWN. Doubt I will lose any sleep

Hmmm...i think you're not a CRNA at all...maybe someone who just says they are. There is no way you could have 6 years of school under your belt. The things you write are not even indicative of someone with only a high school education. Please cease misrepresenting yourself. It's illegal. Maybe you got your degree from one of those diploma mills...you did didn't you? Well...either way...too bad you hate UHC because that's exactly where we are heading too. Sorry Bro...

wow, how were you able to get through college without any grants?

Working, loans, scholarships.........

Many grants are hard to come by, except for small ones (I got one for $200 once and it paid for one textbook and some supplies.....)

It is not true that anyone can go to school for free.:twocents:

:yeahthat:

In CRNA's defense... Formal education and intelligence are not related.

In fact, the world's brightest minds are often lacking in formal education or did horribly like Einstein.

On the other hand, George Bush went to Yale. That about sums that up.

:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle

Ugh... I mean that you can't tell someone's level of education by external factors... Oh bleh, let me stop digging. You know what I mean.

Clinton never cut taxes for the middle class, but he did raise taxes on the elderly. If hospitals are receiving less revenue then nurses are going to be paid less and nurses are going to see a pay cut before doctors are going to see a paycut. Want to see a nursing shortage wait till socialized medicine comes to town.

I would not think nurses pay would be cut, compared to many other industries we dont make that much. I do think a Physcians salary or amount they are allowed to charge for services would be cut. Hospital billing is totally ridiculous. However, maybe there malpractice insurance would be reduced and it would offset. It's really the whole system that needs updating : the costs of drugs, medical care and medical testing in this country is completely absurd. Do you really think a dose of tylenol should cost $10 or a 1 week hospital stay for an emergency illness should cost $40,000? Based upon my impression of Obama's speech last night what he would fight for is the restoration of basic human kindness and to hold people accountable for their actions. Based upon his exact words and Clinton's previous presidency the taxes for middleclass would be lowered and salaries would increase. This seems good to me !
Obama is also supportive of UHC

There is a difference between UHC and socialized.

UHC is superior.

socialized is defunct

Thanks; I'm not completely educated on Obama's plan; all I really know (at this point) is that he is for health care reform and that some of his leaning were toward more universal coverage (he's more in favor of a multi-payer system, right....?)

I am well aware of the differences between UHC and socialized medicine, and I too feel that universal coverage is the better route.

Yeah, were going to Disney Land. where everyone can make believe UHC is coming. I don't know how it's going to get done as President McCain isn't going to allow it.

Ever notice tha Obama is long on ideas but short on how he is going to pay for them all? He never offers any details just "hope and change". Last I checked they don't take "hope and change" down at the supermarket.
