Hello there,
I graduated from LPN school a while back and originally I thought that that would be it as far as my nursing career goes. I really didn't like lpn school very much and I couldn't really see myself working as an LPN.
But now I'm wondering if I should go back to school and maybe I will find something that I like in nursing. ( I'm willing to get as much education as I need to in order to find the right job. Maybe with a Masters I would have better chances to find one that I like) But I'm scared that RN school will be very similar to LPN school and that I won't like it either. And that I will just waste my time.
So I guess I'm just asking for some encouraging words from people that have been in both in LPN and RN school and who maybe enjoyed RN school much better?!
Thank you! Any help is appreciated!!

Weren't there any clinicals you did in LPN school that you felt were enjoyable? If not that would make me a bit hestiant to continue because RN school isn't going to magically present you with much different. Being an RN does offer more flexibility but I would think that you need to actually like nursing in general for it to make the difference between working in the field and not finding anything you would like to do. Maybe if you write back with your likes and dislikes from clinicals we can help you brainstorm.
On the positive, I really, really like RN school. I HATED LPN school. My school was in the city and a majority of students, despite being fairly bright, did not have what I consider a good work ethic. There were a few that imo got pushed through without really earning it and I am sure are a blight on some unit somewhere. I am now with a group of very motivated RN students and it is great...or as great as killing yourself in nursing school can be, lol.
Edited to add: Prompted by a thread by The Commuter in the LPN section I do need to clarify and say that my LPN clinical experiences were wonderful, more challenging and diverse than what I've done in RN school, so far. No complaints about that.

I'd like to add that our experiences are what we make of them. Attitude is everything!

I'm in my LPN portion of schooling as well. Have you worked as an LPN yet? Just curious.

I'm doing LVN-RN now and the clinicals are different and the classroom time is different. The students are very smart and the program is challenging. I'm learning a lot. If you're unsure just go for the ADN and not the BSN right away. For my program we just add into the second year so it's really only two semesters to RN (plus the transition course which I didn't count because it was way easy). :) Not sure if the course description and time is that way for every program. I say go for it. Couldn't hurt and you might learn more about yourself too.

WHAT exactly was it that you didn't like about LPN school?
The instructors?
The classmates?
The courses?
The clinicals?
The "icky" things?
Without knowing why you didn't like it, there's no way of knowing if it will be better/worse/same as anything else.
