I would check just to be on the safe side.
Also, my understanding of basic traffic court (speeding, running a red light, etc.) is that if you do not show up to present your side of the case you pretty much forfeit your right to present your case and the judge usually then sides with the police. Not really a big deal.
However, this is probably different if the reason you were in traffic court was due to "hit and run", DUI, or a car accident where you injured someone else.
Best to check it out and truly understand the "charge" of not showing up.
thing that would create a "criminal record" is an actual charge be it felony or otherwise. Now it is true that failure to appear CAN result in criminal contemp, but this is usually in felony cases where the judge has issued a specific order that is not complied with. Of course not taking care of the traffic ticket could lead to your license being suspended AND THAT could lead to more serious violations such as driving while suspended, or even habitual traffic offender (usually a class D felony) charges.
Tony, not sure I'm clear on your situation. You mentioned you were "just charged with Failure to Appear in Court."
But have you been convicted of anything? Are you awaiting a trial on that charge?
Also not certain if the traffic violation was yours, or someone elses (and you were ordered by the court to appear).

I know a criminal background check is done for nursing positions. I was just charged with Failure to Appear in Court for a traffic violation. Will this keep me from getting a job? Thank you. Tonya
