I was at work the other day and I felt unwell. A bit jittery, increased heart rate, anxious... I had some juice but the feeling didn’t go away. I decided to check my own sugar using the unit’s glucometer. Of course I didn’t have a patient number to key in, so I just randomly input some numbers. Now I was asked by my supervisor why I didn’t scan patient’s ID band when checking his/her sugar. What should I say? Will I get into trouble if they find out I am checking my own sugar at work?
Hey! A nurse is always a nurse!
Even for some of us when we retire our licenses. The nurse thinking' doesn't stop.
There's some old posts around here that are 'from the OLD days'. Things we remember doing when we were soooo new and nsg was more 'patient guided'. You know then, back in the dinosaur days when we wrote using charcoal on cave walls!
Have you checked out the 'blue side' of AN? There a breakroom of us seasoned ones who just chit-chat 'dear diary' style. Join in if you think you like the bunch. (allnurses.com/breakroom)

Goodness. I'm certainly not working in a hospital anymore, knees wouldn't stand for it. It totally shocks me to hear myself saying {assuming a stereotyped quavery voice here} "In my day ..." especially since I am working as a legal nurse consultant and keep up on that golderned modern stuff all the time. Still licensed, still working as a nurse. Just in a different way.
