Local leaders call for Abington hospital to discipline those who told minority staffers to stay out of a patient's room.
Local NAACP leaders yesterday called on Abington Memorial Hospital to discipline supervisors who told minority employees to stay out of a patient's room after a man demanded that only white staffers assist in the delivery of his baby.

:angryfireYou know that this is different, you do know it. If Jewish people went in that room it would have been the begining of World War III. And I am sure that they were saved the time of telling the administration about how they were not going to go in there.
Second the King of Saudi probably purchased that part of the hospital. We all know that the green dollar rules here and in the rest of the world. The difference is and I'm sure you just did not give it much thought, the Abington husband did not have that kind of money.
Well I guess I have said enough, I will leave the ball with you,

And how would the patient KNOW that the service providers were jewish????
Hi:chuckle ,And how would the patient KNOW that the service providers were jewish????
Please take a couple of minutes and read the original discussion, I did not make the original comment about Jewish people, the first writer did.... no Jewish physicians or nurses....
I just added my comment, please don't shoot the messenger.:rotfl:
It doesn't matter - the patient has no way of knowing who is Jewish, unless they ask...so WHY is it going to start World War III (your words- not the other posters, in quote)?
Interestingly, a Jewish hospital in South Florida routinely gets a high number of Arab/Islamic patients, the reason being due to similar dietary restrictions regarding the food.
I had more difficulty getting male arab patients let me start IVs on them (because I am female and in their eyes, male MDs should start the IVs) than were worried about my racial/religious makeup. And once that I demonstrated that I was better than the MD at starting IVs, and that I spoke French (so did the patient), they could have cared less about anything else.

:) I'm sorry that you're not up to date on your history and current events, but the next time to go outside your door ask your neighbor, a stranger... that question, Why is it going to start World War III. I am not here to educate, only give my thoughts on a subject.
Take care, Caroladybelle

I am quite up to date on current events and history, Thank You. As a Jewish woman with relatives in Tel Aviv, I keep up a lot. I have pieces of shrapnel that was blown through their windows during the first Gulf War. Perhaps you might EDUCATE yourself, as I myself have posted to a number of threads on this subject, on this Bulletin Board.
I have yet to have had any of my Middle East clients (patients) or fellow staff members "start World War III" over my care, even those that knew my heritage. I have had them request my care, despite knowing my race/religion. Because they want excellent care and have their faith and trust in me.
But quite honestly, these days, unless you see me attend a synagogue, how would you know I were Jewish????????????
The point is we do not look different, and a name can mean anything.

Well it didn't take long for that to be revealed did it? You guys are more sensitive than we are, relax. Remember this is just a discussion. Let's move on. You've made the topic not worth discussing any longer. I am done with it.
And with you Caroladybelle.
:balloons: Hey you know what though, it was not just nurses, it was the entire hospital staff that was African American; housekeepers, dietary, doctors....how far is it supposed to go?I have to agree..what if a female wasn't comfortable with a male taking care of her? Do we tell her "too bad!"I don't think racism is right, but it does come down to the patients rights
Facilities that are federally funded (as most nonprofit places are because they want the money) must comply with certain things and discrimination is one of them, unless I am mistakened. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.

And who are the "you guys" that are so more sensitive that we?
I would like to know the answer to both questions.
It is interesting to note that Jewish patients/nurses and Middle Eastern patients/nurses frequently get on better together than you would give us credit for, and yet you seem disappointed and dismissive of that. I am so sorry that we do not "start World War III" just to validate your beliefs.
But it is inappropriate for you to be rude to me on this Bulletin Board in regards to an honestly posed question.
:) I'm sorry that you see so much of your own self in this, because it really is not about you. :stoneAnd who are the "you guys" that are so more sensitive that we?I would like to know the answer to both questions.
