Dear Not Getting Job,

It's not about being male, and most likely not about the school you graduated from. Your resume is not landing you interviews. Whatever it is they are looking for, they are not finding a match in your resume.

Make sure your resume is individualized to each different employer. Seek to understand what they are looking for in an employee, and highlight the skills you have that are a good match. Look for keywords in the job description and include them in your resume.

Current experience in nursing is considered to be relevant nursing experience within the past two to three years. If you do not have that, then applying for jobs that require current experience will be a hard sell. Consider applying to jobs that do not require current experience.

Are you actively (daily) networking? Join a local nursing organization, call your classmates, contact previous clinical instructors.

Good luck, it's going to be a matter of stepping up your resume and networking game to land that job.

There are lots of great discussions and threads in the CAREER ADVICE forum to help you. Others are welcome to share their input.

Nurse Beth

I had that same experience even though I had 25 years as a nurse. No current experience in the hospital. I called a travel agency and I got a 8 week contract on a med surg floor. Just from this 1 contract the offers have come rolling in. I have experience on tele, er, icu, and mother baby. That one contract did the trick. By the way I had todrive approximately 80 miles one way to work but it was worth it in the end.
