Accelerated Masters with no Nursing background
Some people are just lazy and want to take the easy way out. These "nurses" are dangerous in any given medical situation. Please I would work the whole floor by myself then have these nitwits coming to me to "fix" their patient.

Nurses smoking weed?
I live in a state where it is legal. Personally I do not smoke or eat mj. But i do encourage my hospice and home patients that are paraplegic, quadriplegics or in intense pain to eat or smoke. MJ quiets muscle spasms, controls pain and causes hunger. I know there are some people that wont agree with me but when I see the benefits I think MJ should be legalized and dispensed in the pharmacy. Then if someone is picked up high it would be a dui punished by law. I worked with a nurse who took 100 mg of ms daily for pain. Home health nurse so he was driving under the influence and practicing. Think about that before you judge my thoughts.

Nursing is the Biggest Mistake of My Life
First off,get rid of the stress called your fiance. He is tearing down your self esteem. Not what you need right now. Second apply at a skilled nursing facility or jail. You have the degree that will put you in an administrative position in 6 months. Third, defer your payments for loan for 3-6 months. This will also lower your stress level. Try going to work for the Indian Health Service they will pay some of your loan for you. Go back to school and get your masters in nursing open a family or womens clinic. There are plenty of jobs out there for good women who have applied themselves to become angels of mercy. Please don't lrt a man come between you and your dream. You will regret it in 5 years. Get a plan, pick yourself up and move on with your career as the person you know yourself to be. Good Luck to you but you already have that.

Should I leave this racist town?
Fly out of there as quickly as possible. Everything will be your fault which will put you on the defensive. Don't let another word of discrimination pass anyone's lips. Go to Human Resource now and declare this a hostile environment. Stand up for your self. No one else will.

One Liner to Diffuse Escalating Situation With Patient
Excuse me this is the ED. You my dear, are not an emergency. We have attended to you. There are people in here that are emergencies. If you think being annoying is going to get you more attention, you are correct. I am calling security right now and you will get that attention. Probably not what you are really wanting but you are bringing this to yourself. So put a sock in it and sit back and relax.

Getting into nursing school when you have a previous bachelor's degree in something else
Nursing is all about honesty don't start your career by omitting the truth.

Are we "semi-professionals"
My insurance company gives discounts to nurses who are proessional. I do not get the discount because I have an ADN instead of BSN. I don't think somebody is going to ask my degree when I am performing CPR or shooting them with pain medication.

Encouragement needed - Frustrated and insulted by hourly rates
Oops, your bad. Did you not believe the things you read? Unfortunately, you will have to learn the hard way. Should have gone into business since medicine is now a business.

Anyone excited about your RN life ahead?
It bothers me to hear that you are thinking of the money first. You should be thinking about how much value you will be able to give to you patients. About this time in your career it is very little. Stop thinking about the money and continue to investigate your field. Money is not important when someone's life is on the line. And who knows one day it may be yours.

Age Discrimination in Nursing
I too do traveling nursing, I have come to realize that as far as retirement money through SS this is not the way to go as SS is based on your yearly income. As a matter of fact, I am now farther in debt than I was before I started traveling. $12.00-14.00 an hour is ridiculous to try to live on in CA. The tax free money didn't even pay for my rent so I had to dip into my $12.00 an hour wage to pay for my housing. Travel nursing is fine if one is not trying to maintain a house and all the expense that goes with it when traveling.
