Or at least they mess with my head. I went through two interviews, had a tour done, came back a third time to fill out all the paperwork for a background check. Did the drug test and the mantoux test. The paper I received said provisional hire status pending background checks. He said I'd hear back by the end of the week. End of the week has passed so I give a call and he said, yes, I think they're in, let me look, I'll call back in a little bit. The day's almost over now and he's not called back.
All I want to do is start my job. I declined an offer and canceled an interview because I thought I was hired. Should I call back again today or am I being inpatient. Maybe tomorrow?
Is the world trying to teach me to be more patient or be more agressive? Or maybe I'm just going crazy because I just want a job again. I know HR is busy, but when I worked in the corporate world and had to multi-task hundreds of vendors, among others, I would always try to get back within a day or two, or at least follow up with how things are processing...
Most of them are disorganized for sure! I just got my FNP degree and luckily was offered my dream job a week later! Filled out all the paperwork they requested. They emailed me a couple of times requesting more stuff and I got it to them right away.
They called me on a Friday before I was supposed to start work on Tuesday and said they forgot about my drug screen, and I needed to get an 'alcohol and drug screen' and have the results faxed to them before Tuesday!
Luckily, I knew a place close to where I lived that did pre-employment drug AND alcohol screens and got it done in time. I was just blown away because I expected to do it when I went to work, not be told I had to find a place to have it done on my own!

Can I make a suggestion? Practice 'exit talk' whenever you expect a follow up call. Before you leave an interview (or whatever) ask something like, "Thanks for the opportunity, if I don't hear from you by (fill in the day/ time) would you mind if I call you back? In other words, get permission to bug them. Maybe mention that you don't want to be a pest, but are anxious. You set the stage to bug them, it MIGHT make them more likely to keep you informed. My 2 cents.
